Phone compatibility
if your phone is not compatible does that mean your MJ works but your phone does not ring because I have tried several different phones and my phone won't ring I tries a VTECH 5.8 GHZ model #IA5854 and a Motorola 5.8 GHZ model # MA561
Re: Phone compatibility
Yes, this is saying that your MJ works, but your phone for one reason or another does not function well as a phone, eg: one of my phones has the dial tone but I have to dial within the computer because pushing the buttons on the phone will do nothing. If you get your MJ working, try these again and let us know if MJ was just acting up or your phones are actually incompatible.derbycitysnotslinger wrote:if your phone is not compatible does that mean your MJ works but your phone does not ring because I have tried several different phones and my phone won't ring I tries a VTECH 5.8 GHZ model #IA5854 and a Motorola 5.8 GHZ model # MA561

Panasonic Phones Solved Low Sound Problem
Finally bit the bullet and spent some $$$
MJ1 (for work) got a Panasonic KX-TG 8231 base unit only (tho it is expandable)
MJ2 (for home) got a Panasonic KX-TG 9341 Expandable system with 3 handsets. Amazing sound.
After a month of frustration of low outgoing volume I am happy to say that ....People can HEAR me now.
Now I love this little gadget!

Phone with headset instead of handset, or both
Hi,
I've been reading these posts with considerable interest and a question occurs to me:
Does anyone know of an MJ compatible phone that has a headset instead of handset so that one could have hands free from holding a handset to do other things?
Just wondering . . . . . . .

Found one:
All kidding aside, I'm sure there's probably a few out there, but no one probably has ever thought to spend the money on one. I know my phone comes with an attachable headset, but you're still tied to the handset.
There are a few out there that have a built in numberpad:
http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/arch ... 20757a.jpg
And a few that talk to handset station:
http://www.amazon.com/VXI-BlueParrott-W ... 14&sr=1-12
You'll just have to wait a bit until someone actually reports what you're looking for.

Handset
I can't get my phone to ring yet I guess all 3 that I have tried are not compatible with MJ. I did also buy a headset by itself it did not come with a phone and it works well with MJ it is Dynex (Best Buy Brand) it is the cheaper one that they had it is not cordless or anything but I am assuming if the cheaper one with the cord works I would assume that the more expensive one without the cord (Dynex brand) will work also. I think I am going to try a dynex cordless phone hopefully it is compatible with MJ since the V-Tech and Motorola cordless Phones and the GE Slimline corded phones that I tried are not.

Quit playing around with those cheap phones and try this setup. When using a cordless phone I have found that using a Powered Hub will give u what u need for your phone to work, the hub I have listed works great, but u can used almost any powered hub, you PC's USB hub probably does not provide enough power for those cheap phones u r using.

My phone is compatible
After having my MJ for three weeks and trying 3 different phones, buying an AC hub, doing the migicfix thing a couple of times, sitting waiting to chat with tech. support, and everything else I did my phone still would not ring. I had almost given up I got really disgusted and started thinking you know the saying if it sounds to good to be true. I was going to E-Mail Dan the Man but I was busy working overtime and all. A few days later I was relaxing watching TV and out of the blue my phone rang I was so shocked just to hear it. Now for some mysterious reason my phone rings. I have not done anything to my MJ or computer I had not even been on my computer. I don't know what happened but now my MJ works like a charm.

Panasonic KX-TG9333?
This is a pack of 3 cordless phones (1 base and 2 extensions). It is a DECT 6.0 expandable to 6 with a KX-TGA630, 930, or 935 extension phone. This is the unit I want to buy for this Magic Jack and wonder if anybody has used this phone with the Magic Jack. Any feedback greatly appreciated. Hate to buy and have to return.

GE InfoLink (28320EE2) - Incompatable
I recently bought the GE InfoLink system (retails about $170-180), and it apparently is incompatible with the MJ. The dialtone basically sounds like static. A call will go through, but voice doesn't go through, either way. I do have a powered hub, and I've tried connecting directly to the PC...no luck.
I spent about an hour chatting with a tech support guy who had difficulty understanding the English language...just to find that he was copying/pasting info from this forum. He said a lot of cordless phones have a problem with MJ compatability. He did say the engineers are "working" on making these other cordless systems compatible, but he didn't have a timeframe for the supposed fix. I won't hold my breath. Instead, I'll probably get a Panasonic model mentioned in these posts.
Happy 4th!!!

I posted earlier about this phone. I took a chance and bought it. Caller ID works and all 3 phones ring. Voice quality as good as wired phone.
Phone Compatibility List
I've never been a headset user, so that solution isn't appealing. I'd like to think that when I travel I could use the hotel phone, but I think many of them now are phone system phones, and may not work properly plugged into MagicJack - in any case I don't want to wait until I get there to find out I have a problem. A cordless Uniden phone, or some other equivalent, is appealing despite the cost, but not so easy to pack for light travel, and if I am going overseas now I need another plug gizmo or ac adapter power converter to charge the phone battery.
I think I've found a solution that works for me. On Ebay I bought an inexpensive phone referred to as a hospital bed phone. Backlighted easy to read touch-tone buttons. Unlike standard corded "princess" phones this one has an on/off hook switch on the side of the handset, so you don't need to carry along a cradle. That makes it very easy to pack, and, as a bonus, it has a removable cord. It came with one that is 11 feet long, but I could get a longer one, or a retractable one. Sound qualtity is fine. It cost $ 15 from Future Call LLC.

Uniden EXA1978i 900MHz works well... when mJ cooperates!

Got the 900MHz (ebay $2 + $4.50 s/h) to address interference issues with my 2.4GHz WiFi link. It rings, it dials and correctly displays caller ID. I also have a Vtech 918-ADX 900MHz on another duplex adapter w/an old Radio Shack caller ID unit someone gave me years ago. All that works well, too.
Now, if someone could just make the mJ (and network) function reliably...
Well, I can dream, can't I? (grin)

Re: My phone is compatible
If you don't mind, who is your ISP? I have a buddy having the same problem with it ringing in. Also, his network sometimes shows as unavailable. I have had no troubles whatsoever, so I am curious about your situation as a reference point.derbycitysnotslinger wrote:After having my MJ for three weeks and trying 3 different phones, buying an AC hub, doing the migicfix thing a couple of times, sitting waiting to chat with tech. support, and everything else I did my phone still would not ring. I know everyone here seems to be listing cordless phones but I tend to use a corded phone with my MJ. GE model 29267GE1 with caller ID around $15 at CVS or where cheap phones are sold. Sound quality and clarity are great. Here are some links and a picture:

Compatible phone list.
I tried a Uniden 5.8 ghz single, I wasn't satisfied. Then I tried a GE corded base with cordless extension handset. Now sound quality was much better, BUT, only the base or the cordless handset would ring on incomming calls. That is if I switched the ringer off one or the other. Otherwise, only the corded base would ring then. It had a high REN# of 1.0.
Exchanged it for a Panasonic KX-TGA101CS and now I have the sound quality and both units ring on incoming calls.

I'm a happy jack'er now!
It may not be the ideal solution for everyone, but for me it is spot-on! I got MJ to fill a gap need because I am temporarily working from home. Didn't want to get a second phone line because my next assignment may come any day and may be back in an office.
However, after trying numerous phones and hundreds of "tricks", my outbound voice was always "distant" and "quiet". Well, today, on a whim, I whipped out my BlueTooth headset (primarily used for cell phone) and configured it to my laptop, hooked MJ in, set to use the Headset, selected my BT, and BAM!
Great sound on both ends! Now, regardless of where my next assignment is - home or elsewhere - I can have good MJ!
Wish I had thought of this much sooner!

On my cordless phone, others still can't hear me that well. On a corded phone, I've had better success.
My Uniden EXA1978i 900MHz only seems to have listening volume adjustment on handset (three settings), but everyone seems to hear me fine (provided mJ net isn't screeching, echoing, dropping out, etc).
You might want to twiddle the mic volume setting on softphone (Menu - Volume/Headset Control - Bottom scroll bars), and see if that doesn't clear up problems w/others hearing you. Also, check for any accumulated gunk in the microphone (or replace it - they're cheap).
I disassemble, soak & scrub, then Armor-all and reassemble -all- my phones, remote controls, etc at least annually with excellent results. Just don't get any coils wet (transformers, speakers & anything 'containerized' like mics adjustable chokes - desolder and resolder after cleaning if necessary). Be certain to let everything dry -thoroughly- (I use fans - no heat), and use 70% Isopropyl alcohol to clean all contacts & key pads before juicing.
My friends break out in a cold sweat whenever they witness this process, but I've not lost a single electronic device in over twenty years!
Hope this helps!

I've only had the MJ for about a month now, not even, and I'm using the AT&T E5947B model. On some calls I hear echo a lot, and some calls the phone kinda breaks up. Others it works perfectly. I talked to the horrible technical support chat host and they gave me the list posted in the original post.
One host did suggest that I get an AC powered USB hub to plug my MJ into.... supposedly this would give it more power and might boost the signal. Hmm.

I'm happy to report an AT&T 5 handset cordless set from Sam's Club has been working beautifully with the MagicJack in my home now for the last three weeks.
It's model number SL82558 DECT 6.0 Answering Phone System w/ 5 Handsets at Sam's Club for 114 bucks...
http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/naviga ... Catg=11770
It was one of only two 5 handset cordless phone sets available locally, the other set was a Vtech at Office Max for a little more ($129).
I should caution anyone that there's a bad review by a customer on the Sam's Club website claiming NONE of his phones would ring ever using MagicJack... (They'd light up when a call came in but not ring he said).
I actually read that review before buying it but being technically inclined I thought I would take a chance on it and see for myself as it was by far the cheapest set of phones anywhere and being AT&T brand, I was pretty sure they'd be decent phones...
I did insert all the batteries into each phone and let them all charge up overnight (maybe the other reviewer didn't???)... As always, your mileage may vary. Anywho, I'm very happy with the AT&T phones and just wanted to add them to the list.
BTW, if you need fewer or more phones, I've included the other AT&T part numbers for the same exact phone set but with a different number of handsets follow:
AT&T SL82118 Base unit and 1 handset
AT&T SL82218 Base unit and 2 handsets
AT&T SL82318 Base unit and 3 handsets
AT&T SL82418 Base unit and 4 handsets
AT&T SL82518 Base unit and 5 handsets
AT&T SL82558 Base unit and 5 handsets
AT&T SL82658 Base unit and 6 handsets
Happy Shopping!

I use a Plantronics CT12 phone and it works flawless, the sound quality is awesome and i can go where ever i want in the house without loosing quality. I used it for years on my landline and now on MJ. Here is a link http://www.plantronics.com/north_americ ... stems/ct12

You probably should have purchased it from a store with a return policy. of course that would be the smart thing to do.Jasko wrote:Ok, so I bought a USB hub with AC plug..... of course it doesn't work. No I'm out 15 bucks.
Anyone suggest any phones that don't have echo? I need a phone with 4 wireless ones.
The Plantronics CT12 seems to work great as long as the battery is fully charged. If it isn't, calls and IP access fails on my 2.8GHz P4, 2GB RAM, XP SP3 machine.

Uniden CEZA1998 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone with Corded Base, Speaker Phone and Digital Answering System seems to be working fine with base and cordless. I like the flashing ringer and turn the audible off

I see that many are having success with their Panasonic phones, but I am not.
I have a,
Panasonic KX-TG2631
and it does not work with my magic jack. I get a dial tone, but dialing does nothing. I hear the dial tone still after calling out. I will attempt to get a different phone tomorrow.
EDIT- Picked up a at&t TR1909 trimline phone today and it does not work either. Same problem.

Panasonic KX TG7431 Fails
Another Magic Jack dud: Panasonic KX TG7431
Fails to ring, fails to answer. Will dial out but then requires a disconnect in order to get dial tone again. Tried with powered hub and non powered hub in the Windows 7 environment. Excellent phone in all other areas. sign
Replaced with Uniden D1680 - $42 - works great.

Using Panasonic KX-TG5621 (5.8GHz) on MJ+. Pressing the speakerphone button on the handset outputs the dialtone for less 0.5 seconds then turns the phone off. You have to wait about 5 seconds before trying to turn on the handset, otherwise it says "no link to base, move closer."
Everything else works as expected. Seems like an incompatible phone issue.
