My Phone won't ring
I have a MJ and I have been trying to get help from the MJ website to no avail I hope someone here can help me. When I have a call coming in it shows up on my computer and if I have it on headset I can hear it ring through my computer speakers but my phone does not ring. They told me to try a different phone so I did and it still did not ring so I went out and bought a new phone and it still won't ring. They also said to buy an AC ppowered hub so I did that and still no ring. They said ti disable my firewall and still no ring I also went into settings of my fire wall and allowed MJ. Then they said it could have some thing to do with my anti virus (norton 360) I think if it had something to do with my anti virus it would not work at all. I also did the magicfix and all of that stuff too. Any help would be appreciated all I want is for my phone to ring when I have an incoming call Please help.
When you say your phone doesn't ring, can you be more specific? I just received and activated my MJ this evening. I went to Fry's and bought a $7 GE corded telephone to plug into the MJ. When I dial the GE phone and the handset is out of the cradle, I hear the ring in the phone's speaker but it isn't loud enough to hear across the room. When I place the handset in the cradle, I then can hear the ring normally. You may want to check your phone to see if it needs to be cradled for you to hear the ringer.
hope this helps,

PHONE WON'T RING
None of the phones will ring on or off the cradle I just know someone is calling because I have it on headset right now and I can hear it on my computer speakers although I can still answer my phone. I hear Panasonic works pretty well with MJ so I might try that.
I had the same problem with my first MJ. Read my post regarding the same problem for troubleshooting info:

In my case, it turned out to be a bad ringer circuit on the MJ...it wasn't putting out enough voltage on the line to make a regular phone ring. I ended up emailing Dan the man for assistance. I received a reply the next day and had a replacement a few days later. Good luck.

I have found that some phones will not ring while others will. Someone on this forum measured the ring voltage from magicjack and saw that it was only about 65 volts AC for ringing. POTS telephone lines have always used between 90 and 120 volts AC for ringing. Some older phones with mechanical ringers need that higher voltage to work. That lower 65 volts won't cut it. I have an older phone that will not ring with magicjack but two other newer phones that do ring. Finding the right phone will sometimes solve the problem of magicjack not ringing.
If that is the case, seems like a mis-design in the MJ with only 65 volts.maine-iac wrote:I have found that some phones will not ring while others will. The address I used was [email protected] I haven't read all of the old postings to quite figure out how he came to be referred to as "Dan the man". I just searched the forum for that phrase and found this posting:derbycitysnotslinger wrote:Who is Dan the man is he on the MJ website? I will E-mail him Thanks so much for your help.

It appears messages sent to this address get distributed to various support people or something. The guy that replied to my email was named Rikard. Anyway, after a couple exhausting conversations via the MJ online chat that got me nothing, I emailed Dan the man and received a response the next day.

My Phone won't ring
After having my MJ for three weeks and trying 3 different phones, buying an AC hub, doing the migicfix thing a couple of times, sitting waiting to chat with tech. support, and everything else I did my phone still would not ring. I had almost given up I got really disgusted and started thinking you know the saying if it sounds to good to be true. I was going to E-Mail Dan the Man but I was busy working overtime and all. A few days later I was relaxing watching TV and out of the blue my phone rang I was so shocked just to hear it. Now for some mysterious reason my phone rings. I have not done anything to my MJ or computer I had not even been on my computer. I don't know what happened but now my MJ works like a charm.
