I Finally Oreder MagicJack Yesterday
After months of waiting I finally ordered MagicJack yesterday. What was I waiting for? I have been waiting for my local area code to be active. In the meantime, I have spent a lot time reading and rereading many of the posts on this site. I have concluded that about 10% of the posters are absolutely nuts This doesn't bother me. The real problem is that the other 90% seem to egg them on Oh, well. Am grateful for this site. By the way, after I placed my order did I get an email confirmation? Of course not. I paid extra for expedited shipping - did I get an email notification of shipping? Of course not. Don't ya just love this company. Consistent if nothing else. Will report back after I receive the little bundle of joy.

I ordered mine with expedited shipping on the 19th. It was shipped out on the 20th from Florida, regular first class USPS mail with a tracking number, and arrived here (KY) today.
MJ sent emails to me to confirm the order, and to notify me that it had been shipped. Both emails were delayed by several hours, though, and at this point there's another email I'm waiting on from them (confirming registration) which I haven't received yet. Maybe they're using some kind of weird store-and-forward batch system for their email (UUCP, maybe? )

From what I've seen on this site and elsewhere, it looks to me like about 60% of users have little or no problem getting it to work, 30% need to do a little tweaking, and 10% have problems that are more serious. That's just my impression, I haven't taken a poll or anything.
I have been waiting for my local area code to be active.
I'm in the same situation -- the area code I want isn't active yet. It took a little digging through MJ's FAQs, but changing phone numbers costs $10 ... but you also get one free change of phone number. So at least you don't have to pay for it once they bring that area code online.

The signup page says I need to put a sig here.

You actually believe it's just a 10/90 split? My bookie gave me different odds.
I think you'll be very satisfied. The main thing to remember is that it may need a little tweaking to your specific setup, but after that, you should be up and running with no problems.
Windows Vista and Laptop with XP SP2 on the road. Occasionally, a Mac if my Windows machine isn't working.

It's Two Days Later
It's two days later and an email rolls in from MJ - confirming my order and shipping prefence but telling me that my little bundle of joy has not shipped yet. I ordered on Memorial Day when they were closed so I can forgive them for the two day email - actually - it should be considered next day. Isn't it wonderful to be on the ground floor with MJ?

I was on the real ground floor!magicjackjoe wrote:Isn't it wonderful to be on the ground floor with MJ?
June of 2007 was when I first received some magicJacks and I had picked Nashville, Tennessee numbers. Now, this month I was able to switch to my 502 Louisville,KY area code/prefix. The main difference between 2007 and now is the network is stable and before we had to put up with system outages. Now magicJack has A+ rock solid network. It's the best phone system available!! magicJack has crystal clear audio and I can't say that is true for the more expensive local AT&T noisy network and the other expensive crappy cell and other phone systems. magicJack #1 in quality and in price. No other phone system can touch it.

Dan Needs to Hire Alan in Kentucky
My apologies Alan for exaggerating my involvement with the ground floor of MJ - thanks for the testimonial you provided - looking forward to receiving the little bundle of joy - will post my response once I get it. Always appreciate feedback from someone south of the Mason-Dixon Line Although I now live outside Buffalo, NY, I am originally from your neighboring state of W.Va.

Sun Rocket Via Talk Magic Jack
I forgot to mention that I am one of the many that got left high and dry when Sunrocket disappeared into the black hole of death. We then moved over to Via Talk. Had some problems with them initially but they ironed out their wrinkles and don't have any real complaints with them except we get billed a monthly access fee or a fee of some kind that we were not told about. Don't know if Magic Jack will provide ample enough service or not so that I will drop Via Talk - will see. I really love the idea of MJ.
I ordered my first MJ today. Our LD is running around $10/mo so I figure just replacing outbound calling will pay for it. We'll see when our area code is available if we need to get inbound. Meanwhile we will spoof our landline number so as not to be screened out by our friends.
We are in BC so I am not expecting local numbers soon and I had heard that they are planning to charge extra for them. Also bought the 2-line autoswitch AX522 from Cooltronics so we can select the MJ from any phone plus answer incoming when it comes to that. Finally we willl take it to Mexico with us for 6 months this fall. Many of our friends here in PV already have Vonage so we can just call their US numbers. Local Telmex lines provide 100 free local calls a month but also charge extra for calling local cell phones.
So the overall saving potential and convenience is pretty significant. We used Jajah this year and that was only 6 cents/min to our Telmex line. And being inbound it did not count towards our 100 calls.

Well, I am finally in the loop
I received confirmation for my order yesterday. Today, just a few minutes ago (5:30 EST) received notification that my MJ has shipped with USPS tracking and info needed to setup my account once the MJ arrives. So far so good. No complaints here about MJ service. Just can't wait for that little bundle of joy to arrive.
