"Number has been changed" message not given

Post by casejam »

I call a number (tel # 1) from my landline and get a recording from the phone company that the number has been changed and am given the new telephone # (tel # 2). But when I dial tel # 1 from my MJ phone I do not get the phone company's recording. Instead, it rings about 8 times, then I get 3 loud busy signals, and then silence. Also, when I try dialing tel # 2 with my MJ line the call does not go through either (I get 3 immediate loud busy signals). Tel # 1 is 916-515-xxxx and Tel # 2 is 916-514-xxxx.
Any ideas or suggestions ?

Thanks !

Try dialing *679*16515xxxx or *679*16514xxxx . If that doesn't help, please post one more digit of the numbers, e.g. 916-515-6xxx. Both of the exchanges you mentioned are split between several carriers.

Stewart,

What you suggested worked on the 916-515 #. Thanks ! I haven't tested it yet on the 916-514 # as it's a live line and too late to call at this hour. I'll try it tomorrow, however. I understand that usually dialing *67 has the effect of hiding the caller id but why does the combo you suggested, the *67 followed by the first digit of the area code and then * again allow me to now get the "number has been changed" recording ?
