Intermitent sound cut-out

Post by infofind »

Kinda seems like this might be fruitful, though I am sincerely not impressed with any attempt at customer support, even though I searched for the live chat window(couldn't find it). Heres the crux; I get intermittent sound cutoffs, and my system is fairly up to date with dual core processor and 2 meg ram. My connection is averaging 5 meg, so whats up? is this really just a crappy way to make a billion dollars? Or, can someone rectify this problem. I have both SkypeIn and SkypeOut which work well. Couldn't pass up the price for this service, but did I get what I paid for? Anyway, anyone know how to get the cuts out of the audio?

Well, it's almost certainly not that your computer's too weak. I've got my MJ hanging off a spare PC, a dinosaur I had nothing better to do with -- Pentium 2 (that's not a typo) with 256 MB RAM running XP/SP2. Windows Task Manager shows it as taking about 25 MB memory, 20% to 50% CPU time (varies from moment to moment), and 160 kb/s bandwidth. (Yes, I know MJ says it's about 80 kb/s; my PC shows it to be 160 kb/s -- don't ask me why, I can't tell you.) As long as I don't run much else on it, the MJ works fine.

Maybe it's a bandwidth issue, with something just beyond your ISP causing the problem? You might wanna try this site and see what it reports the quality of your VOIP to be:

http://www.testyourvoip.com

How "far away" is your MJ number from where you really are? -- for example, did you give your MJ a Seattle number and you're physically located in Miami? From what I understand, that's not recommended.

Also, you might wanna look through the sticky thread on bandwidth on this subforum -- most of it looks to be over my head, but maybe something will jump out at ya.

Not much help, I know; I'm grasping at straws, but maybe I'll grab the right one. ;)

You may have the Windows Zero Configuration service running, which can lead to call dropouts. See if you can stop the service and still have Internet access. This service is only needed for some wireless setups.
