International Calling

Post by jeffnyc »

Now that almost everyone has the area code, lets move on to one of the next issues... international calling.... Anyone have a guestimate of when it will become available?

I don't know what MJ will charge for their pre-paid international minutes but there are international calling cards out there where you dial an 800 number, enter your pin, the dial the international number you want to call. My wife uses one to call her family in Korea. I think we get something like 2.5 cents a minute to Korea. I know it's an extra step from just direct dialing but it works. Just a thought.

In addition to the rates, many calling cards have a connect fee, even if it is a wrong number or message machine.

Well, a big disappointment over here. I've received my MJ earlier this week, it seems everything works fine, but... my primary intention was to use it as my landline. The point is that I use a WDT telephone company to make my international phone calls, their rates are very fair and the quality is just immaculate ( I've tried different companies and not a one of them would have offered this good quality for a price). You register with them and they give you a toll free number to connect to their service after which you are required to enter the number of country of your interest. First I have registered my cell phone with them but you spend your minutes if you call during a day time. So, in order to safe some time, I decided to order my MJ and to register MJ number with them. Well, this morning when I dialed my access number I started entering the number of my country of interest, I have received an electronic message that "only direct dialing is available". What a piece of crap!!! Obviously I have to return my MJ while it's still on 30 day free trial, as it makes no sense for me to keep it. Pity, very pity! The gadget is really good, but it's so far behind from being ready to fight for the market, it's so raw and meantime I would have never refused from my Vonage in favor of MJ, because the last one does not have any reliability in its service quality, offered features, as well as marketing.

I don't mind that MJ might have problems with a new feature, but I do think they have an obligation to keep MJ fans informed when things change. Where are the MJ representatives?

Don't see anything new on www.MagicJack.com - still says "Prepaid minutes for International calling will be available to purchase January 11, 2008."

- love the product - hate the website.

Yes sir, looks like they missed thr target date of the 1st.

I think that they miss most of the announced target dates. Still like the product and hope they survive in the marketplace.
