multiple users in xp a problem?
So I have figured out where all of my crackling static was coming from. If you have more than one user account "logged in" on xp, I think magic jack tries to open more than one magic jack program when you try to make a call. Does anyone know any way around this? It's a lot of trouble at my house to make sure eveyone logs out completely instead of "switch user" which is what we usually do. I don't want to have to log in everytime just to make a call.

Yes I had the same problem many months ago. I reported it on the offical MJ forum. But they have deleted those messages.
Now I have a MJ user and only run it as that user as a job. No one sees the GUI anymore.
Wait, if I recall... If I manually start the MJ GUI is goes away if the other copy is running. I assumed they fixed it. Maybe not...

It may not be the case of 2 mj instances running but just multiple background programs distorting your sound. When you remain logged in it keeps all those programs running from the opposite browser. Also if you do as said you could start mj just from one user screen and still use it regardless of who is logged on. Set it to startup just for one user and then it still would work on all accounts even when you switch users to others. MJ doesnt need the user to be active to work just need to be logged on.
Ok, sorry to revive such an old thread - but I'm new to magic jack and need some advise.
Like the OP, I've encountered problems when another user logs in under their profile and another instance of magic jack console starts up. If I had known, I would have just created a mjack user and only installed the software there - but now it's too late and there is no convenient way to uninstall the software from a user profile, or even stop it from starting up.
If any of you have encountered this issue, what have you done to remedy the situation?
What I had planned to do is uninstall the magic jack software, create a mjack user and only install it there. I've seen some methods on the web for uninstalling magic jack (mainly from people who don't like it) - do any of you have suggestions for the best and safest method?
Other than this issue, I've been satisfied with the magic jack - it's not perfect, but for $20 per year I can't complain.

At the wiki page at http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack has some info about uninstalling the MJ and also some info about running MJ as a service in Windows. I think running it as a service may be a solution to your problem. There are a number of threads here as well about MJ uninstall and running as a service as well. Hope that helps.
