First off, I am obviously an incredibly new noob and my question is going to sound like common sense should prevail, but here goes.
1 I am not going to give up my land line.
2 I want to pay land line company least amount possible
3 Currently have Vonage as a second line, which I intend to give up
4 Land line has caller ID, call forwarding, voicemail
Currently if I forward a call from my land line to Vonage, or Grand Central the original caller number shows up. If I cancel my land line caller ID (and voicemail) and forward land line calls to MJ, does any caller ID still get transfered to MJ? I know that 800 numbers still get caller id info, even if *67, and am wondering if MJ does the same.
Bottom line question is; if you forward a land line call without caller ID to MJ, what will MJ show in caller ID? Is there a better scenario with land line, VOIP, Grand Central to avoid long distance charges?
Thank you.
Forwarded caller ID

Short answer Is yes.
I have Call Frwrd-Bsy Line/Don't Answer (CFBLNA) on a super basic metered line with ATT/SBC and I call foward to a cell and have no problems with caller ID coming through to the cell.
I do not have any other service on this line.
Call forwarding will incur regular long distance charges so make sure that the number forwarded to is a local call.

Thank you for the input. So, let me get this straight; your cell phone displays the phone number of the caller to your land line, not the number of your land line which is doing the forwarding?bigboffo wrote:Short answer Is yes.

Nice call on the long distance issue, I had totally forgotten that my MJ number will be one area code over since they don't offer local numbers in my area code yet. Call forward land line to local Grand Central number to MJ number, sounds convoluted, but I guess we shall see.
Hope I can get the Caller ID spoof to work, so people don't wonder why I am constantly calling from the other side of the state.

lymon... don't know if you're aware of it or not but 800#'s, i.e. ANI can be spoofed with the CallerID Spoofer. Stewart posted a way to do it in the Tips, Tricks, & Hacks forum.
Briefly, using the spoofer, you enter your number like so: *67 8*00-555-1212. Of course, you would put the actual 800# in, but I think you get the point.
I've tested it and it works great; it also gets me connected to 800#'s that don't accept the MJ. If you already knew this, my apologies for being redundant. However, there are so many posts, particularly relating to the Caller ID Spoofer, I thought it might bear repeating.

Darkman, thanks the spoof advice. I am semi aware of it's existence, having briefly scanned the various threads ranging from the early PERL script to the more advanced executables. But I haven't had time to get a firm grip on the how and why, so I will be re-reading those threads more carefully when I receive my MJ and thin client (just ordered all the stuff Sunday )Darkman90808 wrote:lymon... don't know if you're aware of it or not but 800#'s, i.e. ANI can be spoofed with the CallerID Spoofer. Why do some 800 numbers not like Magicjack? I've never had any problem with Vonage and 800 numbers.

One of the more technically savvy paticipants on this forum can answer your question about why some 800#'s don't like MJ. I just know that when I go to pay my Edison bill by phone, I have to fool it when I'm using the MJ. I read a post once, I believe, that it has to do with the way the carrier gets paid, but all that's way beyond me.
