Can't make it work !!!

Post by Murphy'sLaw »

I have browsed through the topics and can't find one that covers everything.
I got my MJ today and was very happy...until it wouldn't work.

1. At first the blue light would come on for a few seconds and go off. Message was something about not recognized and there was an unknown device message, also.
2. The blue light will sometimes come on and stay. Sometimes I will get a dialtone, but cannot place a call.
3. I don't see anything like a menu. I don't think anything was loaded. I did download the upgrade and recovery tool.

I have a cable connection. The computer meets all requirements (at least I thought it did)

I have done everything suggested on their support page...many times.

As usual...if it can go wrong it will. I should have known better than to think I would plug it in and it would do what it was supposed to.

Any help would be appreciated.

More info is needed to help

Hi Do not give up yet.
Give everyone here some info of your PC, and the ISP you have cable, DSL type modem, etc what speeds you have etc try system info so we know what OS and build if it shows etc,RAm
make sure the updates are current, list any conflicts on the PC if any etc.
make sure to use a Usb port thats hooked straight to the mother board, do not use the ext. cable that came with MJ.
Let us know I will try to help, I am a neewbie also and i got mine up and going with little efforts.

Best chance to make MJ work is to have a Clean updated running OS
Remember how much you hated Bill Gates as he slept with our green under his pillow. I refuse to downgrade to vista. Anything new has growing pains. lets feed it and see what happens

I have seen that you're having problem with the light of magicJack. I have one suggestion to resolve your issue: use AC powered USB hub to boost the power..

Hello ya'll. I do appreciate the suggestions. I hope you can follow this as I

will probably ramble a bit.

I have a Dell Dimension 2400, Road Runner (full speed home version), Windows

XP, Internet Explorer 7 (up to date) and 1.50 GB RAM. The computer has been

cleaned and defragged recently.

The problems I have had are: "must plug in" warning or "does not recognize

USB device.

It started running twice. (20 minutes in 2 sessions on 2 days is not great)

I called my cell phone and called MJ from my cell phone. I also called a

friend and the audio was OK, but could use some tweeking. It went away for no

apparent reason and I started getting the usual messages/warnings.

According to the quick fix on the website there are no conflicting programs

or anything. Just the occasional "need to plug in"/"does not recognize". When

I try to run the fix for the "plug in" warning, all I get is a box with the x

in the upper left corner. JAVA is up to date. I have done or tried everything

they suggest many times.

Because of the physical shape and size of the device I cannot plug MJ

directly into USB without unplugging my speakers. I have to use the

extension. I did unplug my speakers and try it plugged in directly and it

didn't seem to make a difference.

I did purchase an A/C powered USB Hub. I get the message it is "ready for

use", but the MJ is not even seen by the system when it is plugged in the

Hub. The device manager shows "Tiger Jet USB Composite Device" when MJ is

plugged into the USB even when I get the "plug in" warning.

I can't think of anything else to tell you. If I do I'll post it. If you need

any other info let me know.

Again...thanks.

Verify that the hub is working, by plugging a USB device (other than MJ) into it. Then plug MJ into a second port on the hub. Does the first device still work? Does the MJ blue light come on? If no luck, try connecting the MJ device both with and without the extension cable. Try MJ in two different ports on the hub.

The problem is...I don't have any other USB devices. I have tried it in the other port where it will fit. The Hub has a light and it is on. I know that is not a sure sign it is working.

my PC slow after i plug mj

Post by Ismir_S »

Dear friends,

i hope someone can help me with this issue. I bought my MJ a month ago in USA. Now I am in Europe and I hopped everything will be OK. I plugged magic jack into my USB, i saw in right corner found new hardware and it came to CD ROM drive and it stopped. After that my computer was really really slow. I also re install windows XP, i have cable connection 2048/256 kbit/s. I tried everything but it doesn't matter if internet connection is active or inactive, when I plug MJ it say found new hardware CD ROM drive and automatically my CPU usage is 100 % all the time, my PC becomes very slow. Yesterday I plugged MJ and i left it plugged, after maybe 30 min window showed up downloading in progress, please do not unplug and after 10 min says can not access the internet. Could it be that one of my hardware components is in the way of mj? How can I fix that?

Thank you
