DOM's here yet?

Post by bneuman »

stroths wrote:They shipped yesterday and I think they used that crappy UPS/USPS hybrid shipping. They call is UPS Ground, but UPS hands it off to the post office for delivery. It's more of a marketing ploy IMO to get people thinking they are receiving UPS all the way when they are really just adding an extra step to USPS shipping. If I'm lucky, it will get here on Saturday. Otherwise it will be early next week, so keep your fingers crossed.
Are we getting closer to having Stroths t5700 custom flash version 1.0 ? I have everything for (2) 5700's except the 2 - 1Gb DOM's from Transcend's. Should be here today....

UPDATE: My DOM's arrived today....6/3/08

My 1GB DOMs came in today, so I just have to flash my image to one and then extract it using the IBR utility. System doesn't like my 4gb usb drive, so I am looking for alternatives to backup the image to.

It's an IDE Flash Drive.... :D You know you have ordered them

Now that I think about it I don't know why I called them DOM. I know reading through the thread that stroths called them DOM's. Maybe because the part number is something like....TS1GDOM44H-S

I just found they are also called... Disk On Module's I knew there was a reason why, hahahaha

Bill,

I think I have seen that term used in some of the HP "How to literature" but I think they were referring to Thumb Drive. I remember thinking at the time it was an odd term now I will have to backtrack to see if I can find it again. I believe it was in some literature that was explaining how to clone a master Thin Client and use it to flash a bunch of clone units.

Which brings up something I am looking for, there is an HP utility that allow you to modify a clone image and and change things like machine name, serial, user and a whole bunch of stuff like that. I know the IT folks at Corning Glass had a hard drive cloning utility that did something similar. You don't want to clone 50 machines for company wide distribution that will all appear to be the same machine and user to a corporate network. Talk about an IT nightmare that would have to be one of the better ones.

Actually the piece I want to use it for is if you clone a thin client off a machine with a 512 DOM ( ) and then write it out to a machine with a 1 gig Flash drive the EWF will force it to look like a 512 hard drive even though in reality it is 1 gig. At least that is what it did to me. I went looking on the HP Thin Client forum and some "Stewart" kind of guy was explaining how to take care of the problem and even named the utility. I have been looking for it ever since with no luck. Ugh! ... and that HP forum is a whole collection of IT types so you can imagine how friendly that place is, not to mention it takes days to get someone to answer you.

OK - I apologize to any IT type on here before you start yelling, but you have to admit you guys are a little different than mortals.

[Edit] Bill where did you find the definitions? Thanks I would have gone crazy (er) trying to find it.

I have uploaded the 1gb image and posted the links in the Thin client thread. I ran into one bug which one of you might be able to figure out because I am tired of messing with it for now.

Are you going to tell us what it is or do we have to figure it out for our selves?

stroths wrote: NOTE: The method of re-initiating EWF doesn't seem to work in my instructions. If you double click the "Enable EWF" on the desktop, it should work. You can do that, reboot and then double click the "Check EWF Status" to see if its really on. The only drawback to this method is the EWF lock icon on the taskbar doesn't work correctly.
Looks like stroths has fixed it....you can find it HERE

All download info is now located HERE in the HP Thin Client modifications thread I started previously. I also added a fix for the EWF issue I mentioned in the other thread previously.
