My phone on MJ not ringing on incoming calls

Post by QuiGonJohn »

I was testing my MJ and for some reason, when I recieve a call, it comes up on my computer screen, but the phone itself does not ring nor does anything come up on the caller ID on the handset. This used to work. Any ideas?

Download and install this test program: http://tjnet.com/software/download/voip ... up1313.exe

Kill the MJ app with Task Manager, then start the test. Click the Ring Test button. If your phone rings, you may have some software corrupted; try reinstalling.

If your phone does not ring, try a different phone, or try another USB port (preferably one on the back of the PC, without using an extension cable if possible). If your phone is connected to MJ through house wiring, or if you have more than one phone connected, test with a single phone and a cord no longer than 10 feet. If no luck, your MJ is probably defective.

I still have yet to try the test. But I have a single line phone connected directly to the MJ. I have 2 MJ's and I swapped the MJ's from one computer to the other. The problem of not ringing is only with 1 MJ and the problem followed the MJ when I swapped them. So I'm thinking most likely it is the MJ itself.

The test would not ring the phone either. Yet with my other MJ connected to this same computer and same phone, it rings. So I'm certain it's the frickin MJ. I really like MJ but this is the second one I have with a problem. The first one fried 2 USB Ports, (in my hub) and then fried itself. Now this ringer problem. Which was working for about the first 2 months.

I agree with you that your MJ has almost certainly suffered a hardware failure. Sorry, I can't offer any help with that -- you'll have to ask tech chat for a replacement. If they don't offer you one, try writing to the bigwigs.

Well I emailed Dan about this and got a reply from Rikard Bone. Seems another replacement MJ is on it's way to me, already pre-programmed with my current MJ number. All I have to do is return this MJ when I get the new one.

Once again, very annoying and frustrating that the device has had a problem. However, unlike dealing with regular tech support chat and how frustrating most here have found that, dealing directly with Dan and Rikard is getting me a very quick response, great customer service on their part.

I can't get my phone to ring, either. First, I installed MJ on my laptop running Vista and could not get it to work AT ALL. So I plugged it into an older machine running XP, ran magicfix, but still could not get the phone to work - no dial tone, nothing.

So, I ran MJ directly into the wall jack and connected my phone to a wall jack in another room - and finally got a dial tone. Made a few outgoing calls and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the calls. The voice mail worked well, too.

But when I tested it by calling my MJ from my cell, the incoming call showed up on the computer screen, but the handset did not ring.

Got any ideas on how to fix this? Any help would be appreciated.

(And, as a side note, it seems that I read somewhere that MJ was supposed to have a "follow me" feature as well, but it doesn't. Any idea on if or when this might become available?)

Thanks for your help!

I heard that often if the MJ plugs into the home wiring, you can't get the phone to ring. Try agin direct into the MJ. In my case, it was direct, just the MJ wasn't sending the ringer signal (defective), new one worked fine.
