Squelch or Screech: Does anyone have this problem on MJ ?

Post by smaerd58 »

Does any one have this sound or is it just me? I can't seem to figure out what is causing this to happen. I am open for all suggestions. Click on link for captured phone audio during conversation, Thanks

Is this heard by the MJ user, the remote party, or both? Approximately how often? On both outgoing and incoming?

If it happens on the inbound audio and occurs reasonably often, could you capture a call with Wireshark and play it, to see if the data from the server has the noise?

It is only heard on the MJ side totally breaks up the conversation. Fairly frequent, don’t know about wireshark or how to set up. Sometimes I also get intermittent audio from incoming call that breaks up and is hard to hear the caller, Thanks

Yup, I have that exact same problem! Usually for like a 30 minute conversation, I'll hear it twice. It never happens when I'm talking, only when the other person is. And if I remember correctly, in only happens when I call cell phones. When I call landlines, it doesn't make that noise. It is quite bothersome. It is only heard on my MagicJack phone, never by the other party. In fact, i usually hear it when they are in the middle of talking and I've asked and they've never noticed anything strange.

Any ideas?

Dcorcuera, that is exactly the same diagnosis as mine. If you read one of my other threads my in-laws have Comcast which seems to be blocking outgoing calls to MJ. My In-laws are also calling me from there cell (SPRINT)to our MJ Home and that is where this sound is noticed or my wife’s cell (VERIZON) home, Thanks

I'm getting the same squelch (I call it screech) for the last year. I have posted this problem a number of times on the forum but no solution yet.

I switched to the current version of MJ but that didn't help. Maybe there is no fix.

I contacted Dan and his Tech got back to me via email. He gave me a list of options to try in regestry etc and nothing worked. I still have the break in while talking on the phone. It is only heard on the MJ side not the callers. I will try and keep this thread updated if I find something that stops this,Rick

I have exactly the same issue. Maybe hear it a couple of times in a LONG conversation. Same thing only get the screech on the MJ side. I also get it on MJ to MJ calls, the person on the other end also with a MJ doesn't get this at all. I've kinda got used to it over the past couple of months. Anyway, keep us posted if you do find a fix..

Cheers.

I have been getting this screech for 11 months and MJ has done nothing about it. I think they just ignore the complaint.

I had a screeching sound when a cell phone called me this evening. This is the first time this has happened.

Tonight I looked at my softphone and at the bottom of the screen it said "Not Connected - no 911 service available", so I rebooted my MJ and the screen came up normal. I tried to make a few calls and either they didn't go thru or they were really choppy.

The live tech support gave me another upgrade to try and did say they were having some server issues tonight. After installing the new upgrade, I tried making a few more calls and they seemed to be ok other than a short screech after getting a call from a cell phone.

Up until this evening, my MJ has worked flawless.........so, any weird issues tonight, I'd suspect it is something with their servers tonight.

Where are these upgrades located? On the web site? On a special link?

This same thing happens to me too! In fact, as I was reading this thread, I received a call from a LANDLINE (not cell). It was a 5 minute phone call and within the first 30 seconds, the screech happened. I'm not sure if this always happened, but it has happened before, at least for the past few weeks, and I've only had MJ for about a month. I updated MJ about a week ago, but still no difference regarding the screech sound. It's not as big of a deal as it would be if the caller on the other end heard it though...

YES!
I have had this problem.
It's very random, and there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it.
I have tried playing with the softphone volume, and it didn't seem to do much for me.

I've tried restarting, restarting the computer/modem and router.
different USB port, etc.
I don't know if it did anything or not.

Recently, I haven't heard it though.
I got used to it, but it did get annoying when it happened to often (like every 5 minuites)

hopefully it wont happen anymore.

I'm the opposite. I used to happen once or twice in a LONG conversation, now it happens every 5 minutes.. Hurts my poor little ear drums it does !!! :)

i was having that problem as well. communicated with mj techs, installed wireshark on my computer to record some calls and sent them the data. they used this to fix the problem and sent a software update. this was on aug 25. i thought they pushed a software update that should eliminate the problem for everyone. perhaps you can update manually.

Same here... started happening several times in a conversation starting within the past 2 days...

I also had the same problem with the loud squelch noise running vista. Long story short i reformatted my hard drive which i do about once a year. Reinstalled all my programs and then i plugged in my MJ. My Mj installed and ever since then I have had NO crazy loud squelch sounds. Its been like 3 weeks now.

Yeah, I'm not sure if that'll help my cause much since I am running it on a thin client. The problem isn't SEVERE. The phone calls are good for the most part on the thin client. I guess I shouldn't expect to ALWAYS be able to have my cake and eat it too...

I'm on a TC as well and it just seems to have got worse over the past week or so. Hey, for 20 bucks / year I can put up with a shattered ear drum :D

Has MJ ever found a cure for the squelching - screeching noise during phone calls? It started on mine after switching from AT&T to Comcast cable. It usually starts after about 20-30 minutes. MJ thinks it's supposed to dial a number when the conversation gets loud or if I laugh. If I talk quietly, it seems to help. People have had this issue for years now. I hope someone has found an answer by now.
