bad audio quality
I am on my second magicjack, the first one I had terrible audio quality and eventually couldn't recieve phone calls at all, this happened after a thunderstorm when power was lost. Contributing it to that I sent it back under my 30 day return and recieved a new one. It worked well within the first two weeks same as the other one but lately I have the same issue with audio quality, it cuts in and out on both ends. I was running the windows xp sp3. I removed that and have sp2 and still have problems. It's sparatic. A few phone calls it will work fine and then not work. I am going to try using a softphone next but was wondering if it was something else. I am not running any music software as they said some of them can interfere. I am only running the windows media and itunes. I am using a vtech dect 6.0 phone, I don't have any other programs or radio wave interference except cell phones. I am on a wireless network and have done and been through every fix that the poorly educated customer service techs give me, still no change. Even when I again contact live chat and inform them, i've done the regedit, unplugging and trying different usb's, different phones, they still want you to try it all over again so I am beyond aggravated with them. I would appreciate any advice or knowledge anyone has in fixing this problem. I have been unplugging it during storms for safety however they had said that wouldn't cause a problem.

Same problem. They are sending me the new MJ as if that will solve the problem. I already have the new version installed and that's when the bad audio started.hj0413 wrote:I am on my second magicjack, the first one I had terrible audio quality and eventually couldn't recieve phone calls at all, this happened after a thunderstorm when power was lost. The problems with MJ never seem to end.
see if you can try it from someone else's internet connection, preferrably a different ISP. If at all possible, use the same computer you are using now (to reduce the chance that the computer is the problem).
I've heard through my corporate connections with some of good sized ISP's (and this is not and will never be official) that some of the cable ISP's are going to start modifying their QOS rules pertaining to VOIP and lower the packet priority, to try to convince their subscribers that Vonage/Skype/CallVantage/etc. are not worth their money due to poor audio quality, so they can suggest their own digital voice plans at better quality and comperable rates (yeah right).
If that's the case, then I'm afraid you'll be out of luck, as you have no control over their QOS rules.
Also, I did notice when I first started using MJ (when I was still using the tigerJet dongle) that majicJack's executable really sucked the resources out of my computer. Run the task manager on your computer (before you plug in MJ), and watch the performace tab. Let it run for a few minutes to get a good read on the usage, then connect your MJ. If everything gets pegged out, then that could be a likely sign of an underpowered computer.
