pap2 ver2 config help
Could some 1 plz assist me with this particular device?
settings are as follow:
Line 1
Caller ID Number:E801741017301
Username:E801741017301
Password:my20digitspasswd
Proxy Server:proxy1.SaltLakeCity.talk4free.com port:5070
Registrar Address:proxy1.SaltLakeCity.talk4free.com port:5070
Digital map:*xxT|*1xx|[349]11|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxx|[2-9]xxxxxxT|[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|011x.T
(caller id/username are fake for obvious reasons)
Provisioning is set to OFF
This pap2v2 was fonage, is unlocked, but but the provision info still shows the carrier server info and stuff, thats why I turned off provisioning. I followed instructions on how to get the encrypted xml, and done it successfully, but the line just wont register.
It shows this: Registration Status : *801741017301 E801741017301 Proceeding
Any ideas?
Thank you

There is an issue with PAP2 V2 where the firmware does not allow alphabetic characters in the caller ID field. You can see that the initial E is getting changed to *. I had heard that this was fixed in newer firmware, but can't find the link now. If you Google pap2v2 alphanumeric, you'll see various posts about this issue; with luck you'll find a link to a solution.
Yes, I did hear about it, but some posted that the the 1.00.13 firware was responsible for that, and thats why im running 1.00.16, but like you mentioned, it does shows a * instead of the E, I guess I will try the 1.00.22 fwStewart wrote:There is an issue with PAP2 V2 where the firmware does not allow alphabetic characters in the caller ID field. Hey I had same troubles with 1.00.16
Try to get modified RTP300 firmware on it http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/post ... ght=#12863 (you just have get hold of a linux box and create urself http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r19868031- )
That solves the alpha issue
Heard that 1.00.22 has someway of locking back to vonage again...by going with RTP300 option you are even covered with accidental resets

Me too...not too good with linux - just followed steps and ran a script and got the patched firmware...If I can do it I think anybody can do it - I just had this in thoughts - if it fries I will get a paper weight otherwise I will get a $50 worth of totally unlocked ATA that I can use it anywhere and steps look very simple...
Just to clarify - no special cables required...once you got the patched firmware you will be uploading via the web interface like you did in other steps
Download RTP300's 3.1.24 firmware from linksys website...
Download file from dslreports link (I used winrar to unpack it)
Put both of them in same directory (original RTP300 firmware goes in to the root - NOT source)
Run .sh script on the root (This is the only place you need linux for! - make sure you have permissions to execute all files in pap2patcherplus.tar.bz2)
Copy the img.web file you got to your PC - rename to .img (not sure if it is a must) - upload as usual
If you got the file sizes and no messages/warnings when executing script, then I would say you don't have to worry at all
Hope I gave a little courage to do it! - GOOD LUCK
Sorry I won't be able to do these for you and upload firmware

Well. I manage to do it. apparently everything went ok, got the file, rename it to .img, uploaded without a problem, restarted, but then the device is not taking an ip address, its stuck with the 192.168.15.1 set my ip to 192.168.15.100 and I cant reach it at all, the power and lan lights on the pap2 are solid, even unplugging the network cable, any suggestions?
Thank you.

Yep. it is because of some firmware issue...it has default ip address of 192.168.15.1 - see this thread - http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r19873802-
If you put this behind router and then try to access it thru that IP
This is the thread where this is covered...http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16514227 - read from 28th page onwards and look for answers
Keep it on static ip under the same subnet as your router should keep this up and running all the time - looks like this has some issues with dynamic address
Sorry forgot to tell you about it! - anyway you did the big step and I am sure you will be a happy fellow sooooooooooooon.

I dont know what Im doing wrong here. I hard reset it holding the reset button for 8 secs, the ip does change to 192.168.1.254, I was able to get in the config pages, set it to dhcp, and it doesnt seem to get an, I chech my router is it assings and IP address but it wont let me get into the config pages again. Tried to set a static ip, and nothing. So, this is what I did so the pap kept the config:
-Hard reset so I can access it thru the 192.168.1.254 ip address
-Configured line one, proxy address, username, passwd, port 5070, cid (is there anything else that need to be configure? how about register, is yes as default)
-The unit restarts, and keeps all config info, and then I input the static ip (192.168.2.141), along with my isp dns and the router ip address as the gateway (192.168.2.1)
After this Im able to access the web interface with the specified IP, but the unit doesn't seem to connect, phone 1 light never come up, I ping a few sites from the papa, and it does sees www.yahoo.com and other, including my router, obviously.
Any suggestions? Am I doing something wrong? Is there other configuration that Im not doing? what are your setting on your pap2v2 for magicjack?
Thanks in advance!

What does Registration Status show? Any other useful status values?
I know almost nothing about the PAP2 V2, but virtually all VoIP devices have 'debug' or 'syslog' features that can send copies of SIP requests and responses to your PC. You want to find out if REGISTER requests are going out and what responses, if any, are coming in. Alternatively, you could capture the device's traffic with Wireshark directly, if you have some means of getting the PC to "see" the packets (dumb hub, managed switch, PC with two NICs, etc.)

It only shows, registration status: failed

Got it!!!
Nevermind, I've got it!!! Reset to defaults and just use usrname:passwd, proxyname:5070, nat:off, registration:on outbound proxy sames as the proxy, works like a charm!!!
Thank for ure help brothat, Im a happy camper now.

You need to do two things more. For the outgoing delay problem, use the Search button to look for "dial plan" from me. That will give you just what I think you need. For the inbound, you need to set your "Register Expires" timer to not more than 840 seconds. Search for "Register Expires" for the background information on this requirement.
And, congratulations on getting your PAP2 working.

You don't mention if you want to be able to call just a couple of favorite countries or if you want to allow anyone to use your MJ to call anywhere in the world (including destinations that cost several dollars per minute). I will assume that you have a favorite country in mind and that it is not within Country Code 1.
The safest way to add one or two countries to the "permitted" destinations list is to add a new phrase to the Dial Plan for each of these countries. Make a phrase in the form of "011???xxx.|", where ??? is replaced by the Country Code of your choice, and add it before the 1441!| entry in the Dial Plan. For example, if you want to add France you would insert 01133xxx.| into your Dial Plan. Do this for each individual country you wish to add.

^^^ i hope this guide helps out the people that need help with the pap2 v2 because it was a pain in the A$$ compared to the pap2 v1 ^^^
** after you flash with this firmware no commands on the phone will work. the default ip is 192.168.1.254 keep that in mind. you will need a hub or router or switch to talk to the device no direct connection will work ***
seti007 it does not matter what firmware is on the pap2 v2 as you can downgrade it to any firmware. and then flash to this patched firmware.
i would make sure your unit is unlocked before flashing to the patched firmware.
step 12 should be user/pass admin/admin not Admin/Admin or Admin
the only time the Admin/Admin password is needed is when going in to ADMIN pages. other pages are just admin/admin or user and so on.
i hope they helps alot of people out.
http://192.168.X.XXX/cgi-bin/firmwarecfg = Admin/Admin or Admin/ = this can only load signed firmware
http://192.168.X.XXX/upgrade = Hidden update page that can load any firmware. ( thanks linksys )
also after you flash the patched firmware you will need to go to
http://192.168.1.254/voice/ <--- to access the page or you will get some 403 error just thought i would add that
