VOIP is generally not that good for faxing. Magicjack is on the lower end of the VOIP scale, so its not going to work very well if at all. My wife's business line is on Vonage and faxing through them is problematic at times even with my high speed FIOS internet connection.

There are people here successfully faxing using the MJ, so it will do it. Just don't expect the same results you would get from a landline.

My faxing has been working as good as any landline. If not better.

Faxing With Majic Jack Very Sucessful!

Post by zonejet »

FYI, I have both Vonage and a Magic Jack. On several occasions when trying to fax anything from 3 to 26 pages, I could not get Vonage to work! Using the Magic Jack, the faxes go through first time everytime! Amazing!

'm using both an HP 2840 ALL In One and and HP 6210 with the Magic Jack for faxing and have NOT had a single problem sending faxes using Magic Jack! Also, I have not had to change any settings on the fax machines. It works fine simply plugging the phone line into the Magic Jack!

Look at Henderson Mikes set up. He uses an adapter. Maybe you can do the same.

fax consol problem

Post by [email protected] »

How can I configure magicjack to use my Microsoft windows fax consol?

It looks for a modem? the magicjack isn't listed in there.

There is currently no way to use the MJ softphone as a "virtual modem". If your PC has a real modem, just connect a cord between the MJ and the modem jack. If you want a phone to also be connected, use a phone line splitter.

You can not fax with a magic jack. You will be lucky if it makes a regular phone call. Don't try to update a cable box or tivo either.

Perhaps they should work for that, They tell people that they won't work because they know they are DEFECTIVE! and they don't want people sending them back

FWIW, I've had mixed results using the MJ with my fax machine. In fairness, however, I've just started fooling around with it. I was actually surprised it worked at all. Pleasantly surprised.

I put a DSL filter on the line, but that didn't seem to make a difference. When it worked, it worked perfectly. Some times, half a page would come through. Other times, nada. Couldn't find a determining factor.

I did it more for fun than anything. My "little bundle of joy" does everything I want it to and more. Using it as a fax is just a bonus.

Actually, the Image is half correct. You cannot fax with a MagicJack, for MJ is not a fax machine. However, you CAN fax using a MagicJack. The rest of what the Image has to say, take it as you see it and from what it is from....

Fax machine stuff

Post by bondo41 »

My fax machine is going good with my MJ. I wanted a fax line and that is what I am using my MJ for. I am using a Brother fax 575 which is the least expensive one I could find.

I set the machine to fax only and the ring delay to 00. It does not ring and picks up on the first ring.

Ummmmm ..... had you thought and did a quick search for the Image 's previous posts, you would see that it's not sarcasm that the Image is attempting to dish out, but simply Trollism. <--- (new word of the day)

I think Dan already hired you malaka. Anyway, this magicjack thing does NOT work well here at all(Canada). Half the calls do not go through, delay, echo, distortion, faxes don't send....and NO, it's not my bandwidth as those absolutely useless live support chat people keep trying tell me.

Faxing does work with my Fax Machine - Brother MFC 8500

Post by sblinnin »

I have been faxing out to people with no problems using my Brother MFC 8500 fax machine. Here is how i do it....

1. Set the fax machine to 14,400 baud rate. It should work at 9600 baud rate as well.
2. Plug your telephone line into the Magicjack. You can use a splitter if you choose. It works that way too.

I fax out to people and also use the following service in this manner.

I have an incredible incoming fax service that costs me only $3.95 per month for unlimited incoming faxes. Since most of my faxes are already incoming, it is perfect for me. The service is called Packetel. Here is the link to sign up. They give you the first month free when you sign up.

http://www.packetel.com/Fax/faxServiceM ... sqxkz12831

Another thing thing that I do is fax documents to my Packetel fax number using my Brother MFC 8500 fax machine. The documents are instantly converted into a PDF document and I can email out the faxed documents to anyone for free. I am in the real estate and mortgage business and I have a lot of documents that need to be signed. So, after i have the documents signed, I fax them to myself [using my packetel fax number]and they are converted into the pdf. It is easy to send them via email to the underwriters. I also send a copy to my clients via email. They really appreciate it.

So, using the combination of both the Brother MFC fax machine and the Packetel unlimited incoming fax service, I am saving a huge amount of money each month in faxing fees. Magic jack has worked perfectly with this combination.

Here is a link of what my fax machine looks like:

http://www.brother-usa.com/MFC/modeldet ... ID=MFC8500

You can find my fax machine on Craigslist, Ebay or Amazon pretty cheap, now!

Good luck. I hope you have the same success I have had with this combination.

K7.net for incoming + ( ActFax + MJ) for outgoing Faxes have been working for me 100%.

K7.net will give you a free DID (206-XXX-XXXX) and will forward all you faxes to your email not limit on pages or faxes free of charge.

ActFax is the best fax program that I have try, it works with any Windows,
the demo version have full capabilities no limits and its work great with MJ, sending faxes, I had have some luck receiving faxes with it but no 100% of the time using MJ but still works on short faxes like 1 or two pages. The program will also create a virtual printer that will allow you to send any documents within your computer.

You must lower the speed of your modem and turn the error control off.

BTW you can use this number from HP to test your fax in an out it is a free test server from HP.

8884732963

You send a test page to the number and they will sen you a test page back tou you.

My magicjack is working perfectly, as advertised.
Faxes work fine.
I don't appreciate you making false statements on behalf of Canadian citizens.
I live in Canada.
