Thin Client/MJ upgrade - "No output/input audio devices
Just got my thin client today from one of members of this board, very nice - BUT
I plugged in MJ, it went thru an upgrade right away, now whenever I try to make a call I get a pop up error message
"No output/input audio devices found, etc."
Needless to say that it does not work.
Cannot select "telephone" in the settings.
Any ideas?

Re: Thin Client/MJ upgrade - "No output/input audio dev
Unfortunately you received your thin client the day MJ sent out a new update. I'm in the same boat but can almost guarantee that we will have an answer later tonight. Keep checking back...kconaty wrote:Just got my thin client today from one of members of this board, very nice - BUT

Just to add to this, my t5700 was running perfectly. I got home and made it run the update to see what would happen. The upgrade installed and after it finished it restarted the MJ software. At that point, I got that same error so there is something with the new upgrade that is causing this.
I also ran the upgrade on my main desktop system and got the same error. I looked in the device manager on both systems and audio was not a problem on either. I also checked the sound control panel applet on both systems and the settings were correct.

Its hard to say just yet without some more research. It may have to do with certain audio hardware and the new update since both of my systems had no issues prior to the upgrade. Your laptop might have audio hardware that the upgrade likes. This is all speculation until we can find out more though.kconaty wrote:it updated on my laptop, and it works fine ?????

magicJack Inoperative On HP T5710 Thin Client After Upgrade
Good evening.
I can also confirm that the upgrade of 11 June has disabled magicJack on the HP T5710 Thin Client. After restarting magicJack, I get dial tone on my telephones. When I attempt to make a telephone call, a dialog pops up on the Thin Client stating that no audio devices were found. I am unable to select telephone from the selection dialog within the softphone as well. After the first failed attempt at making a telephone call, I no longer have dial tone on my telephones.
I have a pretty big incentive to fix this since my I canceled my Verizon landline last week. So, I'll post anything I learn as I try to resolve this issue.
Thank you,
Lisa

I don't have a thin client, so can't troubleshoot the problem.
However, this may work to downgrade:
1. Kill MJ app.
2. Get the old version from http://upgrade.talk4free.com/upgrade/20 ... pgrade.exe .
3. Rename (or otherwise save and delete) the mjusbsp folder, typically C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\mjusbsp .
4. Save and delete any files in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\magicJack\UpdateDownload .
5. Add a hosts file entry:Of course, you will have to remove this entry if you need to download other updates.
6. Flush DNS cache.
7. Run the upgrade file.
8. Registration screen will appear. If if says 'no serial number passed', hit cancel and double click the status area. Repeat a couple of times if needed, until phone # appears.
9. Enter user name and password.
10. With luck, it will show Ready to Call.

If you use Notepad, be sure to change the 'Save as type' to 'All Files' when you save it.
Before editing, make a copy of the file, so you can revert it if needed.

2-4. Nothing extra to add
5. Click start and choose Run. Type in Notepad.exe. When in notepad, do File, Open and browse to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\. Open a file called hosts. Make your entry and save it.

I am glad that fixed it for you too. Make sure you commit the changes so they will stay.kconaty wrote:That worked. I guess this workaround will suffice until somebody comes up with a permanent solution. Thanks so much. I still wonder why it works on my laptop. I probably should apply the same settings to my laptop so it doesn't upgrade.

Attempting to Downgrade the HP T5710 Thin Client
Good evening.
Thank you for posting this process for downgrading the magicJack to the previous (and functioning) version of the software.
Unfortunately, in my case, the Thin Client doesn't downgrade successfully. When executing step seven (7), the upgrade runs and then the softphone appears with the phrase "Starting, please wait..." in the status window. That's it. Everything stops at that point.
In other news, I am thinking that the software upgrade broke compatibility with the audio driver used in the Thin Client. I'm trying to find an alternate driver, but nothing yet.
Thank you again,
Lisa

In a strange sort of way, I am glad to see all the problems here with the thin client. I just received mine yesterday and was trying to set it up today when I started having all of these problems. Now at least I know it wasn't me causing the problems on my end!
Over on DSL Reports, it was noted that the MJ upgrade will not work without a sound card installed. I can verify that the same MJ I have will work with my desktop and laptop which both have sound cards and drivers, while the thin client does not.

This morning, I attempted to access my magicJack account (via my.magicjack.com) and was unable to reach it suggesting to me that there may have been more issues with magicJack than originally thought. My plan was to forward my incoming magicJack calls to my wireless telephone until I worked through the magicJack software upgrade/HP T5710 Thin Client incompatibility.
A short while later (about 0815 EDT) I attempted to access my magicJack account page again and was presented with a login page. This made me think that I might be able to get through the rest of the downgrade process detailed earlier in this topic. So, I attempted to pick up at step eight (8 ), having left off at step seven (7) last evening. Fortunately, this time I was able to get to a valid registration screen, enter my user ID and password, and get the magicJack to a "Ready to Call" state.
At this time, my magicJack/HP T5710 Thin Client are functioning satisfactorily at a magicJack software release (version unknown) prior to yesterday's software release/upgrade.
CRITICAL ADVICE TO ANYONE READING THIS WHO HAS NOT UPGRADED
Add the following line (from step five (5) earlier in this topic) to your hosts file at C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Code: Select all
0.0.0.0 upgrade.talk4free.com
This statement will prevent the magicJack from finding the upgrade server, which will inhibit the upgrade from running on your Thin Client. This statement will need to remain until a fix has been found for the audio-device-not-found problem.
In other news, I have reason to believe that the incompatibility of the magicJack software upgrade may be at the hardware level, which could prove extremely difficult to overcome. The new version of the magicJack software appears to require a sound sub-system of some type. Since it is not possible to uninstall the sound sub-system in the Thin Client, replacing the sound sub-system with a potentially-compatible sound controller (such as inserting a SoundBlaster in the PCI expansion slot) is not likely to prove effective. I'll have more time over the weekend to study this issue and post anything I learn.
Thank you,
Lisa
Good to know I'm not as incompetent as I thought. I had previously set up my MJ and t5700 and everything worked fine, but last night I installed a new router and thought it was causing a problem. Come find out the problems are because of this update. To complicate matters, I'm one of the brave ones who is using a 192/256 t5700 and was barely scraping by on hard drive space. Hopefully that doesn't doesn't cause more problems. It was working fine before, hopefully I can get this fix to work this evening...
Works, but buggy...
This upgrade rollback works but, it seems to me, the update itself is REALLY old and contains some old bugs.
The first one I have found immediately: redial - magicjack sometimes misses tones when I use redial,
never had this problem before and it is quite annoying issue for me ...
Anyway, I wonder if anyone has or can point to a newer upgrade that would fix "not found audio devices"
problem alone with redial trouble?

It appears that users are now being downgraded to http://upgrade.talk4free.com/upgrade/20 ... pgrade.exe .
If you are having trouble with the upgrade, restart your MJ and it should download this automatically. Or, you can install it yourself.
If you modified your hosts file to prevent upgrades, you will of course have to undo that first.

Re: Works, but buggy...
The downgrade file in my situation appears to be the same recent update --- the file I now get when I went through the process quoted above generates the same error condition on my HP T5710 TC magicJack complains that it cannot find the audio stuff.kulumbaa wrote:Stewart wrote in another post:

If anyone can provide a link to a working upgrade.exe that installs the proper drivers for the handset and the headset that would be great.
BTW, no problem with the most recent update when running majicJack from my desktop or laptop -- my issue is strictly with the HP T5710 TC.
Thanks for the info on how to revert and also how prevent the unsolicited upgrade.
received another upgrade this morning that did not fix the "no audio devices" issue. Your revert procedures worked with no problem and I am back with the MJ runinng on a Windows 2003 standard server.
Again many thanks Peter

The upgrade and then downgrade has jacked everything up for me. Only days before the upgrade came out I had my 192/256 TC running without a hitch. Obviously the upgrade ruined that, and so I've started over and reflashed my TC and stripped it back down to barebones running all of the uninstall files, etc. Now when I go to install the MJ it can get partially downloaded and installed, but won't install the USB drivers. It just keeps asking for a location and I figured it should be on the MJ. I suppose I'm wondering if anyone has ever had a similar problem or is using a 192/256 t5700 and has run into a similar issue. For me it's not adding up. If they reverted back to a previous install file it would seem my equipment should load up. Maybe my install files on the MJ are corrupt? Help... please.
Yes, it's currently out for everyone - as of 15:26 EDT, Friday June 13, 2008.kconaty wrote:No 911 footer on the manual downgrade; anybody else and do you think that 911 service is out?

Ah "Great minds..."
But I am not sure why someone would want to do that not to mention its lack of ethical conduct. After all it is just another very quiet XP machine.
[Edit] Has anyone used the new upgrade on a thin client and gotten it to work?

This Posting editor just dropped my reply again, actually good for you witsend.
The short version is THANK YOU for your post. Now we know it is not just the thin clients but something to do with lean and mean machines.
I was so bewildered by it I actually had given up and gone out and mowed the law - "That is desperation" - But now you have put the wind at my back and I am ready to give it another go.

I don't know what happened and I don't know what I did. But I put my thin client away last Friday evening with it not working. Today I plugged everything back up and, Lo and Behold, the dumb thing is working! Making and receiving calls and even ringing. Last week I was trying to set up my thin client when all of the upgrade mess was taking place and never had a working configuration. I tried some of the work arounds on this forum to get it to work. I don't know what the difference is between last Friday and today, but for right now, this minute, it is working. I think the upgrade that is finally working is the version dated Dec 21, 2007, no. 1.73.415.3.

Look for a post by Stewart and/or stroths for a method of preventing the upgrade from reinstalling, it is just a host file edit. Glad it is working for you.

You are not alone with "my MJ just suddenly started working phenomenon. I think maybe as much as 30% of the problems I have chased on the MJ when I have enough sense to quit, go to bed and tackle it again it the morning, come morning are gone. I am a bit of a night owl, and unfortunately I think that MJ Engineering does a lot of their testing in the wee-hours which ends up with the two of us butting heads.

Well, I will have another opportunity to setup my thin client soon. When I bought the client I also ordered a 512MB flash from Transcend and that should be here shortly. I want to set that up from scratch using info from this forum and see if I can repeat my success. I won't be erasing the original 256MB flash until I get it working again!

Does anyone have a copy of this file http://upgrade.talk4free.com/upgrade/20 ... pgrade.exe .
When I download it the link above, it does not even run on my thinner. It gives me an incompatible operating system message and references this webpage: http://www.magicjack.com/requirements/
Using the 1221000001 file produces the dreaded "No Audio Devices" message. I wonder what happened between the time you guys all downloaded the 12140000001 file and when I download (today) and ran it.
