Voicemail

Post by jrmckins »

OK, I'm clearly struggling with this thing ...
I want to be able to dial-in from another phone (99% of the time it will be from my cell phone). When I do, I can't get to my voicemail. I can leave a message but when my "please leave a message" message starts and I press the "*" it doesn't work so I'm never prompted for a password. Anybody have any ideas? I was on chat with support ("level 2") and they are 100% clueless.

MJ voicemail isnt the most reliable sys in the world i would suggest getting a phone with an answering system so you wont have to deal with there buggy VM service. thats what i do and i suspect many others on here..

does the voicemail have anything to do with my magicjack or is it all handled by the MJ servers? I just plugged the MJ into another computer and tested my voicemail problems and get the same problems. Is it my MJ that's messed up?

Progress??

jim: just so you know, I did install the MJ in another computer and have the same problems

Jenny: Have you tried to retrieved your voicemail on your softphone please?

jim: yes, that works

jim: unfortunately I need to be able to retrieve my voicemail when I'm traveling and don't have access to my softphone

Jenny: Do you mean to retrieved your voicemail from your cell phone?

jim: sure. or my office phone or a hotel phone or even my home phone

jim: any other phone that is NOT my magicjack phone

Jenny: I am sorry Jim but that is not possible as of the moment. You can retrieve your voicemail through your softphone and the phone connected to your magicJack.

jim: really?

Jenny: Yes.

jim: OK. so lets talk about recording a greeting

jim: I can record a greeting and save it but when I call my phone I keep getting the default

Jenny: Alright, could you try set up your voicemail please?

jim: sure

Jenny: To retrieve your voicemail, simply use your mouse to click the VOICEMAIL button on your magicJack Softphone, or dial your own number (from any phone). At the automated voice press the star (*) button. When prompted, enter your default password: 1234. Then follow the prompts to change your password, customize or retrieve your voicemail.

jim: OK Jenny. you JUST told me that I can only get my voicemail; from the softphone or the majicjack phone

jim: didn't you JUST say that?

Jenny: Yes.

jim: then why did you send me this:

jim: To retrieve your voicemail, simply use your mouse to click the VOICEMAIL button on your magicJack Softphone, or dial your own number (from any phone). At the automated voice press the star (*) button. When prompted, enter your default password: 1234. Then follow the prompts to change your password, customize or retrieve your voicemail.

jim: it clearly states "or dial your own number (from any phone). "

Jenny: From any phone that is connected to your magicJack.

jim: you may want to have that corrected

Why did it take 4? 5? Chat sessions to get to this point?

lol funny and frustrating at the same time.

you can indeed access your voicemail from any phone if it is working that is, as i have said earlier the voicemail sys is not very reliable
dump it and get an answering system.

I may dump MJ and just pay the extra $20 a month for unlimited minutes on my cell.
