Unable to select phone option in Softphone

Post by free2talk »

Hi All,
I am able to make calls from my Magic jack device using PC/Headset and that part works fine.I want to be able to use regular phone on the MJ but the radio button for selecting Telephone is grayed out and i am stuck with only the computer and headset.
Has anyone else faced this problem .
Oh and it was working fine with another laptop running xp where i was able to use both.I do not have that laptop any more.
My current laptop has Winxp service pack 2.
Pls help.

TIA

Go to Device Manager. Under Sound ..., you should see a USB Internet Phone by Tiger Jet. Is it there? Shown as working properly? If not, what status is shown? Any devices with yellow or red flags?

It sounds then like you do not have TigerJet installed on your comp yet, which should have been. Do a search on your machine for tigerjet (one word). If nothing is there, go to windoze updates and run it and see if there is something from TigerJet there - if so, download it and run/install it.

Have you tried the magicfix?

MagicFix

Mine passes everything except the last one ( checking network access ) but still works fine.
Post back with your results please. Don't forget to click on the big fix button there.

Here is what you should have in your system........

The MJUSBSP folder will be found in the Application Data folder which is a "hidden file".

Also, if you cannot find anything, go to the following site:

linkypoo

Click on:

"have Vista" and download the upgrade and install. Make sure your magicJack is plugged it.

This works both for XP and Vista.

I tried using mj on my vista sp1 laptop today, and the phone doesn't work. The toggle headset phone doesn't work. Most of the things in the diagrams are not installed on my laptop. There is also only 1 mj under 'my computer.' I spent the better part of today with various mj techs. In the last chat I said I believed I need to install the correct audio files. I will post what he told me to do. Maybe it will help someone else. I do not know how extract the codec files he is refering to. I would appreciate help with this. Thanks.

denyse: what should be displayed under device manager?

Therese: 1ExpandSound, game and video controllers"

Therese: 2Right click "Audio Codecs" to check its properties.

Therese: 3See in the list for "msg711.acm"

Therese: Once you click DEvice Manager, please follow that one.

denyse: there is no audio codecs, only realtek and usb audio device

denyse: that's what i was trying to tell you. there are no files for mj sound installed

Therese: Did you format your PC?

denyse: no

denyse: i formatted mj

Therese: 1Please download the DivX Player from www.divX.com

Therese: 2Codec required is msg711.acm

Therese: 3Codec can be checked by following the instructions below:

Therese: 4Right click "My Computer"

Therese: 5Go to Hardware tab and click "Device Manager"

Therese: 6Exapnd "Sound, game and video controllers"

Therese: 7Right click "Audio Codecs" to check its properties.

Therese: 8See in the list for "msg711.acm"

Therese: 9If that does not help try this: (last resort)

Therese: 10Please reboot your modem and router (if you are using one) for 3 minutes.

Mike! Thank you so much for taking the time to do that! Unfortunately, I still don't have any of those items in device manager. It looks like yours is XP, mine is Vista, but the only 2 thing under Sound Video and Game controllers are
RealTek High Def Audio
and
USB Audio Device
There are no subcatagories, and I cant find anything in my laptop that says tiger jet. I have installed first the codec file only from divX, then the whole kit and caboodle. Nothing. The softphone works, I can dial from the hanset, but can hear nothing, incoming or outgoing.
Interstingly I ran the update from a link posted in one of the threads, and I know can toggle between phone and headset, but there's only 1 entry in each dropdown (same as in device manager). The entry are identical under headst or phone.

Did you click on my "linkypoo" above? It's a fix for Vista.
If that don't work, try unplugging your MJ ... go have a smoke or a sandwich come back and plug it back in and let it re-install.

Mike, I did do all those things, and nothing shows, still no sound. I think I might need a different driver, just have no idea which one. Good news is my inbound caller ID is working, and it's spoofing!
