I suspect that the error 3 problem is related to your Starband connection. If you have a friend in town with a cable or DSL connection, you can try your MJ there to confirm.

Unfortunately, VoIP over satellite is very problematic and you likely will find the outbound quality very poor. You would probably get better results with Yahoo Voice or Skype, because those services compress the voice packets, which makes it more likely that your uplink will have enough capacity.

I'm pretty sure that two MJs on one Starband connection will not work, if you want to use both lines at the same time. If you just want two numbers, you could forward the second number to the first, and not plug in the second jack at all.

It can be made to work, but this is not a project for you. By your own admission you lack the know-how. Two jacks running at the same time present enough challenge that your time and the time of the poor sucker trying to help you would be wasted.

Its a similar problem as trying to have two keyboards, or two mice running in tandem. It's like inviting both of your girlfriends over for the same night, and then your wife decided at the last minute that she wasn't leaving town to visit her mother.

You've obviously never been married or you would know that you don't invite girlfriends over until your wife calls from her mothers house! ;)
