MJ has exceeded my expectations; Call Quality is EXCELLENT. VOICEMAIL goes to your e-mail account, and is extremely small in size! MJ has replaced my Land Line, but I still use a Cell as a backup.
However, I do caution people that MJ is NOT a prefect product.
I have had a few application errors that required MJ from working properly, but nothing a Restart of MJ or a PC reboot couldn't fix. (2 system errors total) And 1 Very Odd Condition withing 3 weeks. I turned my second MJ line on today.
The Odd Condition I speak of: This only happened ONE time, when attempting to Dial Out from MJ, I would get a dial-tone, but as soon as I pressed a number (any number), I was on some company's waiting list (listening to music on hold). Restarting MJ didn't fix it. I Called my MJ number from my Cell Phone, and my phone rang, I answered and had a good connection. I tried dialing out from MJ again, and the problem went away. (very strange)

I just ordered the Magic Jack, so I have not yet receive my MJ.
What I expect for $20 a year:
- a phone service that only goes down as much as my cable provider.
- medium quality voice (cell quality)
- medium voice lag ( < 750 ms)
- occasional drops in service (hey, it's only $20 a year for personal phone calls and world-wide service)
Questions for current MJ customers:
- Can the phone number be changed after registered? Is there a fee?
- What area-code are the MJ phones registered? Does this vary by location?
- Is anyone using a Router at home with their MJ? Does the PC's IP require DMZ?
Thank You!

I notice that you don't "expect" any kind of reasonable customer service. Good thing, because there isn't any if you're having technical issues that can't be fixed by "magicFix"...
As for your questions:
1) Yes, Yes. First change is free, thereafter it's $10 per change.
2) You'll want to check their web site. They offer lots of areacodes, but they don't offer all.
3) Yes, and No. No DMZ required. Mine has worked sitting behind my own personal firewall and a big corporate network with tons of security. It does require some open outbound ports tho. Again see their website FAQ section for details.

Re expectations, my experience:
- a phone service that only goes down as much as my cable provider.
No problem
- medium quality voice (cell quality)
Better - sometimes like a landline across the street
- medium voice lag ( < 750 ms)
Once in a while but I am not sure what causes it. Have made 3000 mile calls no problem.
- occasional drops in service.
No drops so far.

For the fun of it....Keith
As reported by others, I've also experienced a "dropped call" when both parties are silent for too long. But that's about it.kcowan wrote:- occasional drops in service.

I haven't seen any 'drop-outs' yet...all my calls have been very clear, no static, no echo while using a reg phone connected.
If you use a headset, make sure to have your volume turned down, otherwise you will get an echo. I am also behind a firewall and have had no issues because of it.
I believe your IP company can play into how well your MJ will work. I'm connected using AT&T Uverse with their upgraded high speed package.
I'm using a wireless connection to my router and my MJ is connected to a Uniden Dect 6.0 phone base which is located next to my laptop. I have one additional handset which I keep in my livingroom.
Caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding and voice mail works perfectly.
