I bought a magicJack for my Dad and myself. My Dad lives in the Halls area of Knoxville, TN. When setting up his magicJack, he chose the 865-332 prefix and got a 865-332-xxxx number, his home phone is 865-922-xxxx.
The problem is he cannot dial the magicJack number 865-332-xxxx from the home number 865-922-xxxx. No matter how he tries it never gets thru. In addition his brother lives in Powel area of Knoxville, TN, he cannot call the magicJack number either, his prefix is 865-947-xxxx. My Dad also has a verizon cell phone 865-292-xxx, he can dial his magicJack number 865-332-xxxx from his cell phone 865-292-xxxx with no problems. I can also dial his magicJack number from my cell phone 423-736-xxxx and my home phone 423-586-xxxx with no problems.
So anyone know why he (from 865-922-xxxx) and his brother (from 865-947-xxxx) cannot dial the magicJack number 865-332-xxxx. Every number we have tried other than his home phone (865-922-xxxx) and his brothers (865-947-xxxx) can dial the magicJack number (865-332-xxxx) with no problems, works great. He can dial his home phone number (865-922-xxxx) from the magicJack number (865-332-xxxx) with no problems
Is the problem he is having dialing his magicJack (865-332-xxxx) from either from his home phone (865-922-xxxx) or his brothers (865-947-xxxx) a result of the phone provider for those 2 phone numbers do not recognize the 865-332 prefix? I first thought about having him dial his local phone provider and ask them why, but dont know if that will help but still an option.
So in leiu of calling his local phone provider I thought he could request a different number as a possible fix to his problem. For Knoxville there were 2 differejnt prefixes he could chose when he setup his magicJack, the choices were 865-332 and 865-365. So as a test, I had him pick a number that has the prefix 865-365 prefix, dial it from his home phone number (865-922-xxxx) and see if it works. So he found a number (865-365-xxxx), dialed it from his home phone number (865-922-xxxx) and it worked fine, got an answer. So is the fix to request a new phone number with the prefix (ex 865-365-xxxx) in hopes that will work from his home number (ie. 865-922-xxxx) like the test number he used.
FYI, he has dialed all possible combinations
1-865-332-xxxx
865-332-xxxx
332-xxxx
from his home phone number with no luck, magicJack never rings, nothing, any other number we have tried from his home phone (ex. my magicJack, my cell phone, his cell phone), everything works except the magicJack number (865-332-xxxx) from his home phone (865-922-xxxx) and his brothers phone (865-947-xxxx)

Tried changing the number, still doesnt work. This morning, he called a number in Sevierville (865-365-05xx), answered and got voicemail. So we went thru the account webpage (http://my.magicjack.com) and got his number changed to (865-365-xxxx), tried calling that from his home phone (865-922-xxxx) and his brothers phone (865-947-xxxx), from the 865-922-xxxx, get a busy signal, from 865-947-xxxx, get the standard message about this call cannot be completed at this time. FYI, we can access his new number (865-365-xxxx) from my cell phone, his cell phone, my home phone and Im sure many other places but just not from either (865-922-xxxx) and (865-947-xxxx)
I feel it is something with the phone companies each are on, my Dad is going to call his local phone provider and ask them why he cannot call the magicJack number, any other ideas?

That's the way to get it fixed. Call the local phone company and tell them calls do not go through to "insert MagicJack # here". There is no need to mention MagicJack or anything else, just that calls do not go through to that number. The phone company probably just needs to update their routing tables.damills wrote: I feel it is something with the phone companies each are on, my Dad is going to call his local phone provider and ask them why he cannot call the magicJack number, any other ideas?
Working now
To answer the previous post, we both have verizon phones, neither one of us have to dial a 1- then the number to either phone from either phone, but we do have to enter the area code.
My Dad called his local phone provider (TDS) and they fixed the problem, now his brother has to call his phone provider (Frontier) and ask them to do the same.
My daughter and I along with some other family members live 40+ miles from my Dad, his local phone company (TDS) does not offer and circle calling plan, so alot of us are a long distance call for him, hence the reason I bought him the magicJack. So far, everything is working as advertised, we are happy campers.
Again, thanks for everyones help!
