How can I get this to work when the computer is off

Post by watson1001 »

Or am I just hoping.. Doesn't seem like it would serve the purpose of a home phone if my computer has to be on at all times.. I'm not sure that it will even forward calls to another number of the computer is off..;. I have a self powered hub so I know that's not the issue.

Any help is greatly appreciate...:(

You can't use MJ when the computer is off. If you're concerned about energy use, might I suggest a cheap laptop? Mine uses 16 watts with the lid closed, so I leave it running 24/7.

Come on guys look around the forum....mabey you should use a SIP box:D They're cheap on eBay just eBay up "Sunrocket" and you should get a list of ATA's. I recommended the innomedia one because that one is easy to "unlock" and use your magicjack settings. if you have any questions you can ask here or PM me.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I need to leave my laptop running 24/7 for other reasons, so I'm not sure I'd gain much by using an ATA. Also, once I hack/customize something, it becomes unsupported, and I have to maintain it myself. I'm sure there's nothing to it, but life is short. ;-)

It's a USB device that requires internet access, how is it going to get power and internet if the computer is off?
