Authentication Problem [Error 3] Message

Post by digitalnomad »

I get an [Error 3] code when trying to initailize my MJ. It says to connect to Internet and double click. This message is at top middle of the softphone.

When I follow these instructions it take me to a MJ registration page that calls for email address and pw. It will not recognize my email or pw used for original registration. Error message says wrong email or password.

...then take me back to same error 3 message at the top middle panel of softphone / grey area where DID number appears. I have tried all the MagicFix and website remedies.

MJ cranked up initilized, gave me a number and authenticated first time I used it. I cannot reboot computer with the MJ loaded in a USB port. This seems to be some sort of authentication problem.

Thanks.

I was getting the same message too.
I was running the callerid spoofer & peerguardian.
Turn both of those off, reset my hosts file - restarted MJ - everything worked fine.
Restarted the spoofer & peerguardian (was trying to block ads but didn't work).
Everything still works fine.

Made any changes recently?

I hate to say this but give it some time. I believe this is similar to the "401" error many of us got after the Dec 26/27 upgrade.

I did all kinds of things and it did NOT help. I gave up for a bit and shut down. Came back 30 minutes later, started everything up, and it started to work. Go figure.

It just seems that the last major upgrade impacts provisioning in some way that takes some time to "take" on their end.

Wish I could be more scientific, but on this one I can't be.

I was getting the same thing when I upgraded to the Mac Beta....

I went to sleep, woke up the next morning and everything works just fine.

To Spambox-

I have not made any changes since it was working yesterday. I spent some time with tech support on the phone. I got them to call me as a test call and everything was working.

I decided that a Skype enabled handset was the only thing that I had changed up to another USB port and it was causing a conflict. I then turned Skype off and rebooted without the MJ loaded in a port. Then did a login to Internet, plugged in the MJ and it initialized and authenticated automatically.

Today I tried to fire up the same way, and got the [Error 3] message again. Thanks to all, I will keep checking back. Those guys are gone at tech support until the 2nd I am pretty sure.

Also, tech support had asked me if I was familiar with Wireshark or Ethereal, but that conversation was dropped once everything was working.

I don't know if this is anything to do with your problem, but, I had the same thing happening till I took the ATA out of the mix that had some of my MJ credentials still on it. It stopped immediately when I removed it and rebooted. It hasn't happened since. I was just thinking that everything has to do with everything, so, maybe that has to do with that..

[Erroe 3] Problem Solved - Sunbelt Firewall Conflict

Post by digitalnomad »

This is an update on the [Error 3] message. I spoke to Tech Support via IM today . They are in the office. They are sending me a new MJ via FedEx.

I am not using an adapter, so that is not the problem. I am going to disable a firewall to see what happens. I did dump my DNS, but that did not help.

UPDATE:

Well, hate to admit it, but it was my firewall. I was using a free version of Sunbelt with few controls. I uninstalled Sunbelt and installed a free version of Zone Alarm. Now I am back up and running on MagicJack.

PS - I also am running Skype, but have unplugged the Skype handset. My guess is that "Sunbelt" may have been the problem all along.

I was about to ask if you had any software firewalls running...
Well there ya go!
I have Comodo and it works great though sometimes it'll ask me multiple times if I want something to access the internet (even though I told it not to ask again). But what can you expect for free. Kerio was my favorite and I might go back if the next version of Comodo doesn't fix the little annoying problems. Used to use ZoneAlarm back in the day but recently just seems too bloated and a memory hog.

They probably feel that your unit was mishandled, while his was defective as it wasn't working properly.

To Kumar-

I sent you a PM on this. Tech support knew that I had something going on with software or hardware issues. They could see it from their end.

They said that they could see my MJ, but could not communicate with it. Also, I have not received the replacement as of yet. It was supposed to have been sent FedEx.

They did not send a tracking number via email as promised. My take is they are operating on a shoestring budget until they get the numbers up, and the bugs fixed.

It is buggy...no doubt about it.

Magic Jack Replaced Free of Charge

Post by digitalnomad »

This is an update:

I did receive a replacement MJ today via FedEx. The key for me in dealing with tech support was to keep detailed notes of all the software changes I had made, all the fixes I had tried, and let them know in a courteous way my interest in helping them solve a beta problem and making the product even better for their future success.

I also made them aware that I had written several product reviews, and was testing the product at my expense. Dan Borislow also made a comment on one of my blog posts. I was sure tech support new about this, as well.

That probably did not hurt and helped to grease some wheels. Instead of complaining, I just let then know that I want to see this company succeed.

Except for the considerable time invested, I have been pleased with dealing with the TS people. I did not ask to have my MJ replaced. It actually was suggested by tech support of the Magic Jack staff.
