Voice distortion, garbled voice, jittery voice. All describe the same bad phone reception.
MJ is unusable.
When this happens and I restart, reception is okay for one or two calls and then the bad reception starts again. This has been going on for three months. Tech chat is useless, second level is useless, the engineers are useless because they never call back.
Ooma here I come.

Internet garble. You can try two things. You can set the jack for performance instead of easy removal or you can check your bandwidth. I'll wager you're getting a lot of your trouble out of other things taking up ram space or your computer isn't optimizing your jack's bandwidth usage. I had the same problem and switched numbers to where our Internet dumps onto the mainland and my problem cleared up instantly thanks to my telephone calls not having to make their way through all of the switches and hops with low bandwidth.
Windows Vista and Laptop with XP SP2 on the road. Occasionally, a Mac if my Windows machine isn't working.

Ooma here I come.
Right click on "my computer" then select "Properties".
Click the "Advanced Tab"
You will see a something called "Performance" click on the "Settings" button there.
Now click the "Advanced" Tab in there as well.
Now you will see something called "Processor Scheduling". There check the round button called "Background Services"
Now click "Apply" and then "OK"
Click "OK" again.
Now restart your magicJack and try a couple of calls to see if the quality improves.
You can also use Windows Task Manager
go to procesess
right click magicjack.exe
set for high priority
Does anyone know how to do this just once?
