Wacky Computer and MagicJack

Post by gearjam »

I have had MagicJack since May and have suddenly run into an unbelievably pesky problem. I am running Windows XP sp 2 fully updated, Realtek AC97 Audio drivers fully updated
First, the unit has worked flawlessly till around two weeks ago.

Next, this is what it is doing: I cannot toggle between headphone mode (which it is stuck in) and phone mode.
The computer softphone works.

I have done the following: changed the unit to another computer and it does toggle but after one short call repeatably shuts down. I put it back to the main computer and it does not allow me to toggle. On the softphone I can call and talk all I want. On the softphone when I trying to toggle it shuts down with an error.

I talked with livetalk tech support and they did all kinds of things. I ran the fix-it routine and downloaded the upgrade, repeatably. I removed Musicmatch from the computer - no big issue. I down loaded Divix software for a codec. I deleted lines of code, even reformatted the unit and still nothing. I think they did things on their end as well but nothing worked. So finally, after three days and seven techs later and an email to the owner/developer they finally agreed to send out a replacement. I installed it and registered the new MJ and the same problem. So I surmised that the problem lies within the computer's software. But tech support has no idea as to what is causing the problem.

I love the idea behind MJ but I suspect that this is a very young product that needs more time to work these bugs out.

If anyone can send me a fix or possible solution for fixing this "non-toggle" problem then I would really appreciate it. I am at this point very frustrated and wasting allot of my time playing with this device.

gearjam... several of us have had the same problem. You might do a search to see what they did to fix it.

I went to the hardware settings and deleted the USB drivers for the TigerJet USB device listed and then reloaded MJ. Haven't had the problem since.

There are so many things within your software config that could be messing it up.

Have you tried rolling back your software (restore) to a date before this issue started? They also reccomend that you disable any firewall before you do the installation since things can go amuck if it's enabled during installation.

I tried once to put service pack 3 on my system but forgot to shut down my firewall......after the three hrs of upgrading, it wiped out my system and I had to perform a restore to get it working again with service pack 2.

If your using a router, this can also mess with using MJ....sometimes cycling the router and restarting MJ fixes some issues as well.

The problem you seem to be having makes no since and I've not seen any report on here of this condition. When I installed mine, I had no issues whatsoever.

My ISP is AT&T Uverse and I'm connected via my laptop wireless. I've got 4 USB ports and all 4 work with no probs.

Thanks Darkman90808, I tried it but it still won't let me toggle back and forth. I searched several forums and have seen where others have had similar problems and tech support fixes were the same things they had me do but they didn't work. The suggested fixes have failed. I am going to work on this for a while longer and then send the new unit back and cancel my subscription and request a refund. I may try another VoIP service and see if they are more dependable.

Beats me! I can't get Bluetooth to work worth cR@#. It finds the device but will NOT connect to the headset. They need a complete rewrite of their code.
