MJ - Get Rid of the Darn Splash Screen !!!

Post by Denver Dave »

Not sure about a product that has a feature that we curse, every time we load the product. Yes I've seen the discussions about how to make it run as a service - but HELLO - MJ how about getting rid of the darn splash screen keeping us from doing real work while it loads - just rude.

My "solution" unplug the darn thing before booting up and then plug it in when I need it - but hard to remember to ALWAYS unplug it after shutting down.

MJ - why not listen to your customers?

Otherwise great product (true needs 3 way calling), but great product - but needlessly frustrating with the splash screen.

GEt rid of SPASH start up POP UP

Post by ramjet555 »

The owner has contempt for users, he insults every customer by stopping them working to view HIS POP UPS
at start up and during calls. Our time is money and the owner is robbing us of our time by having to
sit there and endure his endless SPLASH during start up.
Its totally unnecessary, its offensive, its insulting and I'm wondering what revenge is available?
Just when is he going to get the hint that he is going to generate an incredible amount of bad will?

Revenge? Just quit using it. That'll show him.

It's definitely a nuisance....kind of like that Make a Forum screen that comes up every time I click on a discussion or a reply button. Still, for $300+ a year, I can put up with it.
Windows Vista and Laptop with XP SP2 on the road. Occasionally, a Mac if my Windows machine isn't working.

We all love Magic Jack or we would not be here. That's not the point - there are two issues:

(1) Splash screen that is unnecessary, unwanted, rude and robs us of our time. Let's say we turn on or reboot our PC twice per day. 365 or so days per year - that makes 730 minutes per year or 12 hours. If our hour is worth $20 then the the splash screen costs us each $240 per year waiting on the splash screen. Also some days, I reboot several times per day if I have a systems issue and it is even more frustrating to have to wait.

(2) Lack of responsiveness from MJ. Would love to love the product, but hard to do when MJ ignores the issues.

If anyone learns of a product like MJ with similar functionality and price where they do communicate with their customers and do not have an splash screen - please let me know, especially if there is true 3 way calling. Meanwhile, I've unplugged my MJ and plug it in when I want to use it or just curse at it if I forget to unplug it before starting my PC.

May I point out the obvious? The splash-screen-with-ad is a potential revenue source. Considering that, in exchange, we're getting unlimited telephone service for $20 a year, I'm more than willing to live with the trade off. I'd recommend getting a thin client, using it with MagicJack, and never having to view the splash screen at all if it bothers you so much.

If you start your MJ manually, you will not see the spash screen.

Code: Select all

"C:\Documents and Settings\<yourname>\Application Data\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "F:\magicJack"
(Substitute your drive letter in for the F: above)

You'll probably want to disable autorun, remove the cdloader and UTSCSI services. From now on, start your jack using the command above. This will make your MJ start in about 5 seconds, and you will not have the spash screen at all.

MagicHack,
Kindly provide some more precise instructions, I found the Folder you mentioned;
mjusbsp
I see 4 folders ar00000 in00000 st00000 ug00000 Upgrade , then exe files are
magicJack.exe MagicJackLoader.exe magicJackS;lash.exe
dll files are magicJack.dll octvqe1_apiw.dll SJHandsetTigerJet.dll TjIpSyhs.dll
TjVista.dll
skn file big.skn
Gif files Loader.gif WarningMjCouldNotStart.gif WarningNoDeviceFound.gif
html files _911offline.html _shuttingdown.html mainBannerOffline.html wroffline.html

Inside ar00000 and inside in00000 st00000 ug00000 , I found the same files; install.exe jagicJack.dll magicJackSplash.exe mjsetup.exe splash.gif WarningMJcouldNotStart.gif

Can you tell me what to delete or modify?
How do I open the .exe file and change that code lines?

I agree totally, Dan should hire you, but with his attitude towards customers
I doubt he will change any direction for anyone.
Is there any chance you could provide a better service?

MagicHack, Can you PM me please.

Slash Screen

Post by frankcox »

There are several ways to do it. I shut off auto load and then started magicjack from mydocuments/me/application data

Here is another way.

I am curious what would happen if you just deleted the splash screen?
Mine is working so I doubt I will fix it.
