Dial tone but cannot dial out.
Greetings: I have burned about 24 hours trying to get this "free" service to work. No luck with MJ's on line "live" support despite 2 attempts. I have DSL Westell modem + a Linksys router. I reinstalled the modem and the router. Followed every suggested "fix" on MJ's website. I get dial tone, but cannot dial out. I turned off my router firewall the MS firewall (I'm running XP). I am currently getting Error Code 401, then 3. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this crazy thing to work? Any help is much appreciated.

aja0girl, I did not have any problems but if I do not have an internet connection, I still get a dial tone but then cannot dial out. When I check my computer, I usually find I needed to do a "repair" to renew my IP address. I am using my neighbor's wireless link (with his knowledge and permission). For some reason this happens. If you can get to Yahoo or other web page on internet explorer, then you have a good connection. The Majicjack box will have a notation that you are connected and ready if it is good.
When I installed this on my older laptop, the Majicjack software did not load automatically. I went to the Majicjack site and downloaded "an update". Once I downloaded and activated the majicjack software, all was well and did not have another problem. I think the "dial tone" is making you beleive the internet connection and majicjack is operating, but this is just probbably the Majicjack interface circuit providing the dial tone to the telephone via its interface circuitry.
I used my Majicjack device on 3 different computers and only my laptop gave me a hard time and made me manually download the Majicjack software. I use the same Zone Alarm firewall program for all 3 computers and the same anti-virus programs, etc. Hopefully you have anti-virus software on your computer. If not, you may seeing a viral effect giving you a problem. If you do not have an anit-virus program, install a free copy of AVAST and scan your computer then try again. Also run a Spyware cleaner (SpyBot 1.5 is free and excellent).
Hopes this helps.
