I just made 10 test calls, from 2 different computers, to recorded theater information lines in Baltimore, New York, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Seattle, Detroit, Washington DC, Dallas, Anchorage, and San Diego. Not one connected properly. In New York and Anchorage, I could hear 1 second of the recording, then went silent; the others were completely silent. The control panel appeared to have the normal Trying ... Session Progress ... Operational display. I then called my home phone, in the next room. It rang normally, and the answering machine picked up, but no audio through Magic Jack. I was able to leave a message on the machine, sounded good.
Fortunately I have 3 weeks to send this thing back if they don't get the bugs fixed.
Good info. As I always say, it does not appear to be ready to be your primary phone service OR a "landline replacement" -- i.e., lack of Support for ATA, lack of detail in the Caller ID, lack of Support for Linux or win2K (stable platforms IMHO) and lacking Call Stability and Consistency.
What it has is price and Travel ability.
IF they iron out Network/Switching issues (for consistent and clear calls - INBOUND & OUTBOUND; nothing else matters if this does not exist)
ANDIF provide ATA support
ANDIF provide Network Status Page
ANDIF provide Linux/Win2K/VMware Support
ANDIF support CallerID Block
THEN, it would ABSOLUTELY UNTOUCHABLE by anything out there
Corollary: I would be willing to pay a little more for the above.
(IMHO), my $0.03 ... Hello, MJ Team, can you hear me???
