MJ @#$%^ - Error 3 & Error 401

Post by klgjr »

I am so thankful to have found this forum. My MJ worked last Friday, December 28, 2007. However, no matter what suggestions I try I can not get past the MJ bouncing back and forth between an error 3 and error 401 since then and I have tried 3 different machines and still have no luck with this device. I have tried to get help from the MJ website, but their site is worthless. They have disabled the support sub pages and that is very frustating. So if any one else has an answer for this problem, please let me know. Thank you in advance for your help.

Tell us what you have tried so far to get it to work.
Also tell us a little about your setup and any changes you have made recently.
And also other programs you have running in conjunction while trying to get MJ to work.

SB:

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 with XP Pro w/SP2 and 2GB of RAM and all the lastest Windows Updates last applied about two weeks ago, before I install the MJ. I have Symantec V10 Anti-virus and Firewall. My MJ worked last Friday via this workstation connected to my home network via a wireless 54G connection. All the calls last Friday were crystal clear even over wireless. It did not work before Friday or since. I have added no new software to this machine or the hardwared Compaq 2.4 GHZ that I have also tried to load and run the MJ on. Again neither machine has any additional programs running. I also, get the logon screen don't remember from which error 3 or error 401, but it asks me to enter my email address and password again.
I have done all things that the MJ said to do. I killed all the processes related to MJ as well as unplugging MJ waiting 30 seconds to try again. I did this on both of my machines the Dell and the Compaq MJ still didn't work. I even ran the MJ recovery that I got from this forum last night. I even tried to run the MJ at work on our test network and I got our Router guy to make sure that all the ports listed on from the MJ website were open. Still no luck. Let me know if you have other suggestions or questions. Thanks.

I had the same problem. It most likely is a software conflict with a firewall. I uninstalled Kerio Sunbelt and installed Zone Alarm (free version).

PS - I also had some problems with having a Skype enabled handset with a USB jack plugged in at the same time.

I uninstalled the phone and Skype still works fine with just a headset. I have necer been crazy about Skype anyway.

I think the ebay boys are gonna have to do some catching up.

Magic Jack Now Working

Post by klgjr »

I had to put the Windows XP w/SP2 machine outside all firewalls and have patched it with all the latest Windows updates. Turned off the Windows Firewall so the that Enhanced 911 address info would display. Once MJ is fully operational (started) I turn the Windows Firewall back on and the analog phone is have plugged to the MJ is working fine. According to Amange Foad from MJ tech support the only ports that need to be open in your firewall are 5060 and 5070 UDP. So I am going to try it on my home network on my Netgear "N" Router open these ports. I will report back later this week. Thanks.
