Multiple SIP logins...
Silly question. With my ATA up and running, can I use a SIP client on my machine as well? Will this "get me noticed" ? Would it ring both clients? I know how CallManager handles this, how about Asterisk,gimme the gory details???

Thanks for the response... However, I'm a little confused about the "only one needs to register". I'm using my knowledge of Cisco product as a basis for comparison, which is probably incorrect.
So, a sip client can use the proxy without auth to the domain\realm? If so, iIs this because the proxy see's the traffic from the same address and assumes ATA and softclient are one in the same?

I should clarify my statement. If one client, regardless of IP address, and using the same same proxy is registered then that client is capable of making and receiving calls. Any other client using the same sip credentials can also make outbound calls but will not receive inbound calls. The outbound calls will authenticate via the www-auth handshake and the proxy will recognize that client as being registered even if the outbound call comes from a different IP address.
Put another way, only a registered client will receive inbound calling. Any unregistered client can initiate outbound calling so long as the outbound call is placed via the same proxy as a registered client is registered to. There must be an active registration when the call is placed, regardless of the IP address of the client placing the call or the IP of the registered client.

Okay, I'll throw one more little tidbit at you. The inbound call as I said goes to the registered client. That is the default. If you change the contact, you can re-route the inbound call ANYWHERE you want it to go!

Unfortunately, this advice is one very quick way to get banned by MJ (and many other providers). When the SIP server notices that registrations are coming from more than one IP address simultaneously (ping ponging) or that calls are being made from an IP address that is not the one currently registered, that is an enormous red fraud flag.
This is much more true of "unlimited" services, such as MJ, than it is for pay-by-the-minute services, such as NuFone.
Moreover, in MJ's particular case, where a particular account is bound by the ToS to be used only by one particular hardware device, simultaneous use of the account from more than one IP address is that much more difficult to explain away.
