Only headset works, not phone
I know someone out there can help me. Just got my magic jack yesterday. Have an old Dell Inspiron 2200 with Windows XP. Installed without difficulty, but I can't get a phone (tried 3) to work. Can dial a number on all phones and on PC and calls go through, but only can hear person called over PC, not phone and I don't have a headset connected to PC. So far no fixes from customer service, including installing the upgrade. I noticed that when I opened the menu section on magicjack screen, and go to vol/headset control, it shows it's on headset. When I change the option to choose your device and indicate telephone instead of headset, it doesn't keep the setting. Even if I keep the screen open showing telephone selected, I still get the same problem. Would appreciate advise.

Search the forum but there have been a number of posts regarding this. In my case, the fix was to go to the Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Universal Serial Bus Controllers -> Tigerjet USB Composite Device, which was showing as malfunctioning, delete it and reboot MJ.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Go to "Control Panel" double click on "Sounds and audio devices"
Select the "Audio" tab
On the first drop down menu "Sound Playback Default device:"
select "USB telephone device by TigerJet"
Click "apply" and exit.
I don't think this is the way to fix it but it might give you a clue about what's going on. In other words if this works then you know its just a system configuration and not hardware related.
Hope this helps

I'm keeping your info in case I need it, but when I reconnected the magic jack today it worked with my phone. I guess whatever I tried yesterday right before I disconnected the device worked. Thanks.

Received Audio on Hardline Sounds like it is under water
Hope MJ user with this problem finds this post prior to spending useless hours in chat with MJ agents??
If you are experiening garbbled, under water audio on your hardline telephone? Try this method. This is already posted but the other member who tried it said it started working for no reason. I had a simialr experience.
If you go to Sound, speech, and audio devices in your control panel(My OS=XP SP2) and choose Sound and Audio Devices, then choose, Audio Tab, then Click on Sound Playback List and choose, Phone by TigerJet, then Click Apply, and then choose OK.
Now try to make a call.
It was my experience that nothing changed.
I then went back (follow steps above) and reset to default(making sure that Use Default Devices was checked), click apply and then OK.
Make another Call. You should now hear normal audio in your ear.
If you get MJ agent advice on this? They will have you do the same procedure but they will skip the Application of the TigerJet Device. In fact MJ tells you never to use this Device.
I knew it was a problem related to my conjfiguration but could not find it. I had tried it(MJ device) on other computers at other locations and it worked flawlessly.
Thank You, sooooo Very Much for this forum and all the people who took the time to post. God Bless You All!!!

I tried it 3 times today but it did not work.
After being disappointed, I had the phone disconnected both from MJ and the power source for 2 days. Plug in this morning and worked fine for 30 minutes but the same stupid problem.
I don't know what to do. This silly MJ is trying my patience. Anybody with better ideas. thanks a lot friends. gabrella

Just want the stupid thing to work...
Gabrella????
I just discovered that you have to repeat the proceedure each time you disconnect the MJ or reboot the Puter.
I know you were thrilled
when it worked!!
Have you tried it on other system(s), at another location(both of my the MJs work as avertised on other system(s) ??? Just my luck
Maybee the MJ device is defective. I spent countless HOURS
in chat with MJ Agents. Copy and save your chats with the MJ Agents. Great time saver when you ask for a superviser, just add your previous chat to the new chat and let them chew on it a while before they start telling you to try things you have already tried(more than once) before.
They finally sent a new device but I still had the same under water audio on the received audio portion of the hardline phone.
Keep posting. Maybee
the answer is still out there.
Best Wishes...
