Windows CE

Post by hazlett »

I just received my T5520 yesterday, opened it and found it has WindowsCE on it. Will MJ work with it or do I need to download and install the embedded XP version ???

I have read many posts and searched for the answer but decided, finally, to ask here.......

Magicjack will not work on it, as it requires XP. I don't believe that XPe can be installed on your 5520, but I could be wrong.

LOL, I hope someone might know ! I will try anyway, not much to lose by trying. The machine cost less than $40.00 on eBay, including shipping. I suppose I should have read the description closer.

thanks

You should get the 5700 series to run MJ

Yes, I realize that, but do I need to install XPe ? Or will CE do the job ? How hard will it be to install XPe ??

I have installed OS's before, no problem there, just never fooled with a thin client before......

Thanks for your response.

ok first I don't know if xpe will run on a 5520 but if it did it would require upgrades, flash memory, ram. Installing xpe is not difficult at all.
second, no one is ever reported running mj on CE. Sorry I can't be of any more help. My experience is only with 5700 series and xpe. Maybe someone else has better info.

I doubt it would work. That box has 128/64 specs. I'm barely able to run MJ on my 256/256 system and even then, it's cramping my style.

You could look into the possibility of upgrading components, but then the HP XP image probably wouldn't work or even install, but you could try.

Lastly, you could learn to turn that box into a router of sorts so it's not a waste and then invest in the 5700 series.

Thanks, guys !

I will set this up as an internet appliance for the grandkids to play with when they come over. I have a 5700 coming soon, via eBay.......
