Cannot Dial Using Regular Phone - Tech Support is stumped

Post by TheFonz »

So I spent 2.5 hours chatting with CS this morning to no avail.

I received my MJ; it took the download fine and everything else - but it won't let me dial out using a regular phone keypad. I can dial out on the soft phone, and pick up the regualr phone receiver and talk that way; but it won't allow regular phone keypad entires (like navigating thru voicemail prompts).

I have:

Tried it on three different computers (2 XP, 1 Vista)
Installed, reinstalled and formatted the software several times, including the update.
Downloaded the DivX package
Tweaked the TCP netwrok card settings (even though my speed is 10mb down/1MB up, verified via speedtest.net)
Tried it on different powered USB's on all 3 computers
Straight connect from cable to computer
Disabled firewall and ant-virus
Used three different phones - 2 hardwired, one cordless Motorola 5.4ghz
Did the 'background services" switch

And I am stumped, and apparently so is tech support. They tossed me around to 4 different techs who ultimately said they would forward it to tech (and then promptly stopped responding in the chat session).

I think it's a bad unit - 3 different computers, 3 different phones, software loaded, updates installed, plenty of bandwith.

Any opinions?

I had the same problem

It's your MagicJack. I had the same problem. The phone worked for 2 months. Then all of a sudden I couldn't dial out. The MagicJack support told me it was my phone and I needed to buy a compatible model.
They provided me a list of compatible phones, so I went out and bought one. Still the same problem. After fighting with the MagicJack Support, I returned my MagicJack and got a replacement. It now works with the new phone and my original phone.

Thans for the response.

Customer service agreed to send out a replacement unit; and in the meantime, I had already order another one - so there are two on the way. We'll see, for sure, if it was a MJ problem.

The only part that sux is paying for the return shipping. If it's a defective product, they should credit that amount.
