Hi guys long time reader first time poster.

My setup Windows Xp Sp3 Plugged in to a USB hub with an AC Adapter going through a wireless N router.

When I make a phone call the person on the other line can here me just fine however when I hear him he sounds like a Robot but he can make out everything I say crystal clear this was my inaugural call any suggestions on what I can do?

Thanks.

open your task manager and set the priority for the magicjack.exe process to high. This worked for me.

Click on Control Panel -> System. Then click the Advanced tab and you should see sections for Performance, User Profiles, and Startup and Recovery. Click the Settings button in the Performance section.

You should get a pop-up with 3 tabs: Visual Effects, Advanced, and Data Execution Prevention. Click on the Advanced tab.

You should see 3 sections in the box: Processor Scheduling, Memory Usage, and Virtual Memory. We will change the Processor Scheduling. Click on Background Services (which unclicks Programs).

Reboot and then try your calls - it should work fine.

I wondered why they had instructed the users to power-down the modem and/or router every month, maybe, this is why.

DID it help. and if so, for how long?

Create a shortcut to the following:

Code: Select all

cmd.exe /c start "runhigh" /high "C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "G:\magicJack"
Replace the G at the end with the drive letter of your magicjack drive.
Use this shortcut to start MJ, & it will start with high priority.

To do that, find the process magicJack.exe in the Task Manager, right-click on it, point to Set Priority & click High.

I had this trouble, went through all the troubling shooting with the chat session. What helped me was the regedit portion of the chat. They ask you to delete vid1307 folder in HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\enum\usb. I had none so we deleted all entries starting with "vid_" and only left the two root_hub and root_hub20 folders. Exited regedit then replugged in the MJ and the callers robot voice was gone. It basically reinstalled th MJ. HTH, Ross.

I couldn't delete the VID_1307 folder. There are also a lot of other VID_ folders that I'd hate to delete if they are necessary for otehr programs. How did MagicJack's rep know that it would be ok to delete all the other registry files?

Here's what a tech chat told me to do to completely reinstall:

Ivan: Please unplug your magicJack. Now go to "Start" in Windows and click on "run". In there write regedit and press enter.
Ivan: Now click on + sign next to HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE.
Ivan: Click on + sign next to SYSTEM
Ivan: Click on + sign next to CurrentControlSet
Ivan: Click on + sign next to Enum
Ivan: Now find folder called USB. Right click on that and click on "Permissions". In permissions click on the
Ivan: check mark called "Allow" to the right of "Full Control".
Ivan: Click Ok.
Ivan: Now click on + sign next to USB and then find the two folders called "Vid1307", right click on one at
Ivan: a time and select delete.
Ivan: Now click on - Sign next to USB.
Ivan: Right click on Folder called USBSTOR and allow permissions.
Ivan: Now click on + sign next to USBSTOR.
Ivan: Find the folders called "CdRom&Ven_YMAX&Prod_MagicJack&Rev"
Ivan: and "Disk&Ven_YMAX&Prod_MagicJack&Rev"
Ivan: Right click on those one at a time and delete them.
Ivan: Now exit Regedit and then plug your magicJack in

I assumed since I have no other USB video products they could have only been MJ's entries. So I wasn't too worried, plus if they were for some other USB device they'd most likely be reinstalled when I plugged it in. =)

I think the tech forgot to mention to reboot and then plug MJ back in. When you edit the registry it will not take affect until you reboot. At least in windows. Someone please correct if I am wrong about this.
