Can not select "telephone" under headset/volume co

Have been on "chat" with MJ help. I can not select "telephone" under menu/headset-volume control/select device. I reset, deleted, rebooted, reloaded, tired three different phones. Any help?

Mine pulled that crap a couple of times, but usually clears up after a reboot.
Windows Vista and Laptop with XP SP2 on the road. Occasionally, a Mac if my Windows machine isn't working.
