Error 401 this week

Post by mrrrich »

Is anyone getting chronic error code 401 since Monday?

The MJ has been great for the past 4 months until this past Monday when it started the morning with the 401 and the suggestion to restart MJ. I did that countless times and even unplugged the MJ twice -- then during a restart around noon it gave me the upgrading message and came up perfectly.

However the same thing happened every am this week -- I went through random restarts / unpluggings / waving my coffee cup in circles over the unit and it came up perfectly (around noon again).

I did find the fix with the Windows security file and I did that yesterday am -- it made no immediate difference. After several of my haphazard voodoo incantations thru the morning the MJ came back online around noon again.

Is anyone experiencing this at this time? Does anyone know where I can find the error codes. I will probably contact MJ customer service but only when I have enough time to work with them. I usually find the info I need here....

Thanks very much.

Error 401

Post by corbeaux »

I also got Error 401 with my MagicJack on 2 machines where it previously worked for several months without any issues what so ever.

I went to the Live Person link on Magic Jack's site and the tech support there got my magic jack working again. Honestly, they didn't do anything that I didn't try earlier today, that is, switched usb ports, took off firewall, rebooted, restarted magicjack, upgraded the software etc.

What got it working in the end was me downloading the most up to date version of the software a second time and installing it again. Didn't make any sense but it seems to have worked.

It may be that the software got upgraded within the couple hours between when I upgraded the first time and the second time or maybe it was something more sinister where they broke something which affected a particular group and tech support fixed it when members of that group reported in to the Live Person support. Either way, mine works again, YaY!! :)

Error 401 this week

I have gotten this error starting this evening. I wasn't getting it this afternoon.
I assume it has to do with something MagicJack is doing on their side of the equation.
I really wish they would have the common courtesy of telling us in advance when they are doing something that may cause problems or notifying us when some upgrade doesn't go smoothly. Also if some server has problems, they should post that information to this forum as well.
This silence is rude and unprofessional. It also causes many people to try to troubleshoot something that is not our (the customer's) systems fault.

Error fixed with tech help

Post by kisscool321 »

I forgot to keep my chat log.
I created a session with a tech using this link:
http://tinyurl.com/27pzpm

Then got on hold with someone really quick, I guess I was lucky for that.
The tech said she's gonna reactivate my number.
That was it!!
I have a toshiba with a vista SP1.
When the problem occured I was abroad for work, in Africa.
Peace

Error 401 resolved...

Post by mrrrich »

Last night after two days without service and countless attempts at recreating my old voodoo from earlier this week I gave in a went to the MJ live tech chat.

While I've read the frustrating accounts on contacting them, I may have gotten luck. Christy got on right away (around 9:15pm EST) and had me:

- unplug the MJ
- re-plug it to another USB
- download the upgrade
- run it

The MJ came up fully operational -- I called my cell and got connected. It worked the remainder of the night and started up fine this morning. I hope this helpful -- I didn't keep a log of the exchange but it was actually very straightforward. Of course she offered the usual cordial expressions and logged off - she never explained what the cause may have been or if there was a system-wide MJ problem....

Hopefully this will be helpful to anyone who has been wrestling with this 401 and 3 situation.

Good luck.

Try to fix windows registry with RegCure/Registry Mechanic software. It works for me 100%.
