Works for a while, and then sleeps

I am using XP Pro service pack 3. I have 2 users on this computer, and use it as a backup file server with mirrored drives. I usually don't touch the keyboard. I remote to it via remote desktop with a Linux desktop. My wife remotes to it from a PDA using remote desktop.

Anytime either of us does a remote session, the MJ dies and hangs. That will happen the moment the remote session starts. No dial tone, and it won't answer any more. Have to manually log in at the console, and plug and play.

I noticed that the sound driver could be an issue. It losses what the sound device is and it never had a microphone to begin with. I don't want speakers. I only want a phone attached to it at home.

So, I tried not emoting to it for a couple days. Not sure at what moment it happened, but it went to sleep even just sitting at the screen saver. It stopped answering, and the phone doesn't have a dial tone. I restart it by unplugging and plugging back in. It works for a couple days again, and then dies. This is repeatable.

What do people do to keep it working on their desktops?
