Magic Jack Stopped working. Majic Jack not connected to usb.

After using my Magic Jack for 2 months without any problems one day it just stopped working. The computer kept insisting that the Magic Jack was not connected. When I unconnected it and connected it to the USB port I would get the message "Connect MJ to usb port" The MJ software that always started when I just booted my system was not starting.

After some time I was able to figure out that my CD/DVD drive was not working either. From within the Device manager my CD/DVD and MJ both had a yellow exclamation mark on them. If I opened My Computer I could not see my CD/DVD drive and I could only see one Magic Jack icon (You are suppose to see two. )

I got a hold of MJ technical support and they had me try quite a few different things and after a couple of hours they had me messing around with the registry editor. They had me erase many registry entries but still nothing.

I did research on this board and there were several people who had a similar problem but there were several different answers. I tried several of them but only one worked.

I am posting this to try to help someone else who may have a similar problem.

Basically, you must fix your cd/dvd drive. Microsoft has instructions and a automated program that you can download and once I ran this program my problem was gone. Good luck to those trying to fix their MJ.

BTW, my magic jack works great, it gives me the opportunity to call my mother in Central America when ever I want at a cost of about $20 per year. (Very good quality) The cheapest rate I can find for calling my mother from a land phone is about $.20 per minute. For this I have to use a calling card and the quality of the call is bad half the time and many times my call gets cut off. On top of this all calls are rounded to the minute. If I want to use something like MCI or ATT international the rate is about 0.30 per minute.

I have several MJ's. A total of four and I have tried them with different computers and different phones. Not all computers and phones are created equally. If you don't get excellent quality from your MJ I would suggest that you try experimenting with another computer and another phone.

Your information is very helpsul.. I am having a very similar problem with my JagicJack. Doesn't recognize being plugged in. No MJ icon or "drive" in My computer. .etc, etc..
Only difference is..... It Does show my dvd/cd and it is working!

Also, when I go to your link and try to d/l the file... It goes nowhere.. Any suggestions? We know you certainly are not going to get any assistance from YMax.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.
