Buy it...Yes there are a few problems here and there, BUT for $40 it works great. Right now they have outages every few weeks/months (depending on area code) but they will have improvements within the next months. So go for it....also they have the new 30 day crap where u can return for free after 30 days....Rember when you are ordering to go to the chat and say I don't know if i want to get it and they will give ya a $2 promotion code which takes 2 bucks off;-)

Over all it's not a bad product but it is a cheap one and you get what you apy for. So depending on how reliable a service you want, you may or may not want to get it. If you already have at least a mobile or home phone for back-up, then I would say go for it. May sure your computer meets all the requirements. But then again, I don't think the price will be going up in the next several months, so if you're uncomfortable - wait.ethos wrote:over the last week or so ive been keeping an eye on this forum, tyring to decide to buy or not.

I got it because in November I went over my mobile minutes. Those extra minute charges from that one bill alone would of been enough to pay for the MJ! So not I try to use the MJ as much as possible. I've only had it a few weeks, but it's already help me keep my mobile minutes down.

I have a couple of these things just to play with. When you think about what you can spend on a POTs line, or a cell phone for one month of service, you really can't ignore this for the price.
I have read about everything I can about MagicJack, Dan Borislow, and YMAX. These people are not going to fade away. They own or control a CLEC and are players in other areas of telephony.
I also think they have arranged their business affairs to avoid being shut down by regulators for not playing by the rules.
In essence they are a traditional telephone company on one side, using VoIP as one of their services on the other side. Since they partially use traditional switching technology, they can avoid an injunction against them...from say a suit by AT&T or one of the other big guns to shut them down.
Essentially they are playing by the telco rules and government regulations, and taking a very small piece of the pie. If they get too big, they will just become a buyout target and the technology will disappear (think Wankel combustion engine). Younger readers can do a search.
I owned an RX-7 with a Wankel engine and it had like 4 or 5 moving parts, best car I ever owned. This is the same reason we do not have wireless power, which was certainly more than a proof of concept, invented by Telsa about the same time radio was invented. This is well documented, but corporations can't make money on free, or near free stuff.
Enjoy your MagicJack while you can.

I'm not quite that confident, plus I'm bundled. It's a good product though. I've had mine going on a week and it's been perfect.kumar wrote:I use it as my main line!!mphixson wrote:It is good as a second line that you don't need to depend on.
Obviously don't use it to replace your main line.
Maybe when it's stable, but not now..

have 2 agree w spambox and digital nomad above
1 it is NOT ready 2 be your primary line or landline replacement (anything depending on Windoze is not; no official ATA support). but does work great in travel scenarios.
2 and there is NO support or doc (except this forum)
3 as long as you are ok w this then GO FOR IT
4 also pls keep this in mind thinking about giving as a gift -- you WILL become tech support for whoever you buy it for or give it to
