Do you think that THIS is what Dan meant by advertising sponsored calling? It wouldn't surprise me a whole lot.

I *love* my MJ, but that might be a deal killer, even for me. I would probably have to bite the bullet and go to some other service provider or just move to a virtual number that didn't have the commercial.
These are the reasons I don't sign up for more than a year at a time.

I think for me, it was just the idea that I *love* my MJ and don't like things to change. (I know, I'm probably on the wrong planet, but that's just me.) I s'pose I would get used to it, but I like things the way they are. Of course, if MJ didn't have that faint echo on the other end, I wouldn't complain too vigorously.

Well, I don't have the link to this because I read it A LONG TIME ago, so take this with a grain of salt.
People have asked these questions before, and made these exact accusations about Dan's intentions (especially critics of the magicjack TOS commenting on the "magicpage software" written in the TOS). Dan personally responded to one of these articles, as he usually does, and said that he would never do that and that was not his intention. Ad's would only show on the Computer Screen.
I'll try to dig that up for you guys if I can find it.

Google Files For Patent
Google has recently filed a for patent for a concept to play ads instead hearing the ring tones. http://www.dailytech.com/Google+Updates ... e15783.htm

Re: Google Files For Patent
Good morning.
I hope Google offers a buy-up option for Google Voice users to buy their way out of the advertisement-supported free service. I'd pay a few dollars per year to use Google Voice without annoying advertisements.
As a side note, when I worked for Pierce Leahy back in the late '90s, we paid for a service very similar to Google Voice. This is definitely a useful service.
Wow. I don't mind the concept so much, but what troubles me is that call connections may be delayed in order to provide sufficient time for the advertisement to play.macman4hire wrote:Google has recently filed a for patent for a concept to play ads instead hearing the ring tones. http://www.dailytech.com/Google+Updates ... e15783.htm

Kinda like the $20 a year I pay for my Yahoo! email account for no ads?I hope Google offers a buy-up option for Google Voice users to buy their way out of the advertisement-supported free service. I'd pay a few dollars per year to use Google Voice without annoying advertisements.
If GV started inserting ads without the ability to opt out, I would drop it like a bad transmission. But there would be a certain irony to telemarketers first having to listen to a commercial before they could connect.

Okay, That's Funny!
Good morning, Darkman90808.
Fortunately, I don't receive telemarketing calls. Whenever I get a new telephone number one of the first things I do is add the new telephone number to the do-not-call list.
USD20.00 would function well for me. I'd even settle for a way to create a list of callers who get right through without the advertisement nonsense (along the lines of how we can create a preferred list of callers who aren't pre-screened in Google Voice now.)Darkman90808 wrote:Kinda like the $20 a year I pay for my Yahoo! email account for no ads?lcompton wrote:I hope Google offers a buy-up option for Google Voice users to buy their way out of the advertisement-supported free service.
