Do you think that THIS is what Dan meant by advertising sponsored calling? It wouldn't surprise me a whole lot.

These opinions are strictly my own. However, if you really want them, we can negotiate.

boy i sure hope not. that would be terrible, especially for ppl using magic jack for their business line. On their infomercial, one of the "uses" they advertise is "a separate line for your business", so that would suck if they start putting in call ads.

I was making a call yesterday and before it connected I heard " Thank you for using Majicjack". Haven't heard it since.

I *love* my MJ, but that might be a deal killer, even for me. I would probably have to bite the bullet and go to some other service provider or just move to a virtual number that didn't have the commercial.

These are the reasons I don't sign up for more than a year at a time.

If thats what MJ gotta do to pay the bills, so be it... unlimited local and long distance for $20 bucks a year, im still at wtf. Have not seen/hear any ads from MJ, Once i see/hear the ads, atleast i would know that MJ will still be around a little longer hahaha.

No Ads = not reliable
Ads = kinda reliable lol

The only ads i hear is when i dial 411 and thats about it.

I *believe* I heard it as part of a longer message that I needed to dial an area code. Here it is:

"In order to complete this call you must dial the area code and the telephone number. Thank you for using Magic Jack."

You may have just heard the tail end. Or, maybe not.

Would it be so bad if the ad played instead of a ring? Either way, you're still just waiting on the other person to pick up. Just hope they're quick to the phone.

I think for me, it was just the idea that I *love* my MJ and don't like things to change. (I know, I'm probably on the wrong planet, but that's just me.) I s'pose I would get used to it, but I like things the way they are. Of course, if MJ didn't have that faint echo on the other end, I wouldn't complain too vigorously.

Well, I don't have the link to this because I read it A LONG TIME ago, so take this with a grain of salt.

People have asked these questions before, and made these exact accusations about Dan's intentions (especially critics of the magicjack TOS commenting on the "magicpage software" written in the TOS). Dan personally responded to one of these articles, as he usually does, and said that he would never do that and that was not his intention. Ad's would only show on the Computer Screen.

I'll try to dig that up for you guys if I can find it.

Google Files For Patent

Post by macman4hire »

Google has recently filed a for patent for a concept to play ads instead hearing the ring tones. http://www.dailytech.com/Google+Updates ... e15783.htm

Wow. I don't mind the concept so much, but what troubles me is that call connections may be delayed in order to provide sufficient time for the advertisement to play.

I hope Google offers a buy-up option for Google Voice users to buy their way out of the advertisement-supported free service. I'd pay a few dollars per year to use Google Voice without annoying advertisements.

As a side note, when I worked for Pierce Leahy back in the late '90s, we paid for a service very similar to Google Voice. This is definitely a useful service.
Thank you.

Lisa :)

Kinda like the $20 a year I pay for my Yahoo! email account for no ads?

If GV started inserting ads without the ability to opt out, I would drop it like a bad transmission. But there would be a certain irony to telemarketers first having to listen to a commercial before they could connect.

USD20.00 would function well for me. I'd even settle for a way to create a list of callers who get right through without the advertisement nonsense (along the lines of how we can create a preferred list of callers who aren't pre-screened in Google Voice now.)
Darkman90808 wrote:But there would be a certain irony to telemarketers first having to listen to a commercial before they could connect.
Okay, that's funny.

Fortunately, I don't receive telemarketing calls. Whenever I get a new telephone number one of the first things I do is add the new telephone number to the do-not-call list.
Thank you.

Imagine having to listen to a commercial before your 911 call was connected.
