Asus eee pc as thin client and power usage results

Post by g000 »

i just got an asus eee pc off ebay for less than $150 and plan to use it as thin client to run 24/7 for MJ. can anyone share any experience or suggestions?

it seems to use a bit less power than HP thin clients with LCD closed.

also I am wondering if it's better to install winxp embedded rather than xp full for MJ.

or what should i do to strip down xp full as much as possible to rid of all unnecessary services and processes?

would appreciate any inputs.

thanks

the asus eee pc i have is the 701 2G surf version.

i have it set up with xp and working fine with MJ.

here are the power consumption test results:

12-13 watts w LCD off and idle
13-14 watts w LCD on and idle
14-15 watts during a call (LCD off)
