HP t5700 w/ 1gb DOM/512mb ram and I cant get MJ to run right

First, thank you for your help in advance. Apologies if I ramble. I want to make sure I don't miss anything.

I have had my MJ for about 3 weeks. I had it on my PC and it worked pretty well, but didnt want it on all the time. My pc is wireless, and I wanted to get the MJ on a direct connected machine. Read and reread the threads on the thin clients and decided that is a good way to go.

I have spent 2 full days trying to get this to work. I am using an HP t5700 w/ 1gb DOM/512mb ram. I have reflashed the with both XPe SP2 and with Stroths 1.2 custom flash. I don't have any issues with install. Both install correctly, it seems. I set it up to log in as Administrator. I disable the EWF function during the testing and setup of the TC for MJ support. When booted in the XPe sp2 image, I delete the items suggested in the thin client thread to free up room and remove unwanted stuff. When i plug in the MJ on either flash image, what I get is the initial screens with the image of the MJ, then the softphone appears. The softphone will initialize and will say "starting, please wait 000-000-0000". From there sometimes it throws me into the registration screen where I verify my email and password (sometimes this does not happen and goes straight to the next message). After about a minute it will say "Please connect to the internet and double click here" where it goes back to the registration screen. I am connected, as I have spent several hours looking at this forum from that same TC while trying to figure it out. And yes, while I have been testing, I have had my firewall wide open.

Also, I don't get the option to choose telephone as my device. When i choose the menu button, then the Volume/Headset control, the radio button for the headset is selected, but when I try to change it to telephone, it does not do anything

I have tried some of the things I found on the threads. I have tried to update directx, but not sure if it worked. I try to run dxdiag.exe from the start/run prompt and am told by the system that it is not present. I look in c:\windows\system32 and it is not there (in both the newly flashed XPe sp2 and the stroths).

I have reflashed my DOKs 2 times each (for both the XPe sp2 image and the Stroths image) and I still get the same results.

I have tried installing Java, but my problem still does not clear. I am certain I am missing something really stupid, but right now, I am just not getting it.

Can someone help me out here? Thanks again.

Are you remembering to do a commit after installing such things as Direct X, set Administrator log in etc.

I installed HolmanGT's MagicJack .img on my thin client (T5710 1.2/512/256) last night and it worked like a CHARM 1st try. Here are the steps I used to get it running....You will need his .img to do this...if this works Thank HolmanGT, if it doesnt Blame me for not typing the steps correctly...LOL

Setting up the BIOS

Go in to BIOS by hitting the F10 key at the HP Screen.
Go to Advanced BIOS Features.
Set 1st boot devive to ATA Flash.
Set all other boot devices to Disable.
Save and exit, let WinXPe load.

Getting control of WinXPe


Start you Thin Client and let it load into WinXPe.

You will be logged into WinXPe as a User, you need to be logged in as Administrator to gain full fuctions of the operating system.

To switch from User to Administator.

Click on start button and choose log off Push and hold the SHIFT key down and click log off.

You will then be taken to the sign in screen.

Enter Administrator in both boxes (the letter A must be upper case in both boxes), log back in.

You now have full funtion of WinXPe.

Click on start button and select control panel and select the Logon Manager.

Enter Administrator in both boxes (the letter A must be upper case in both boxes) hit OK button.

Look in the lower right hand corner of your monitor, you will see an icon that looks like a toolbox, right click it and select comit.

Do a restart and you will automaticly be logged in as an Administrator everytime.

Preparing USB drive for MagicJack .img

Place your USB drive in a free usb port on you Thin Client and let WinXPe detect it.

Go to control panel and select the HP Thinstate Capture then hit next, ensure that it shows your USB drve and select capture.

A box will appear and warn you all data will be lost, hit yes and system will reboot and do a reseal befor entering windows.

Once you are back in WinXPe go to my computer and open the USB drive, you should see 3 or 4 files on it.

Shut down WinXPe and remove the usb drive.

Take your USB drive to the computer you have the MagicJack .img on and copy the MagicJack .img to the USB drive.

Put your prepared USB drive into a USB port on your Thin Client and power it on.
Go in to BIOS by hitting the F10 key at the HP Screen.
Go to Advanced BIOS Features.
Set 1st boot devive to USB.
Save and exit.

The USB drive will start printing text to the screen, you will be asked 2 times if its OK to add the .img select yes both times.

At this point just sit back and watch the show (the MagicJack .img will automaticly load).

When it completes this step you will be told to remove your USB drive power down your Thin Client.

When you restart your thin Client go in to BIOS by hitting the F10 key at the HP Screen.

The Thin Client will do a reseal befor going into back in to WinXPe

Once you are back in WinXPe go to the control panel and select HP RAMdisk manager.

If your Thin Client has 256MB of RAM set the drive to 16MB if you have 512MB set it to 32MB.

Select apply and a box will pop up asking you if you want to restart select NO.

Go to the toolbox icon in the lower right hand corner by the clock and right click it and select COMMIT and the Thin Client will restart.

Once you are back in WinXPe connect you Broadband connection to your Thin Client and test the connection by cilcking on Internet Explorer.

Plug in your MagicJack and let it do its thing, once the dialpad loads right click on the toolbox by the clock select commit.

Restart and wait for you Magicjack dialpad to appear, connect you phoneline and enjoy.

Thanks for the suggestions. They didn't work, but I got to thinking more about the problem. I finally got fed up and hooked the MJ back on my PC. I placed it back onto the Thin Client and the softphone registered. Finally some progress. My MJ phone number now shows up, and I can dial out with a headset.

Still not able to make calls on the phone when MJ is hooked up to the TC. I did see a couple threads for that so I will look into getting that fixed. If anyone has some suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Do you have both the sygate and windows firewalls set to allow MJ? You can just disable both temporarily to test if you got a virus a simple reboot would take care of that.

I disabled Sygate from the start. From what I have read, it didnt seem to be necessary anyway if all I was doing was using it just for MJ. I had the Windows firewall and my home firewall open.

I did finally get things working late last night. After plugging the MJ up to my PC, and then plugging it back into the TC, things seemed to start working as far as registration and updating. Not sure why. I was able to make headset calls but no handset calls. I found a thread on having headset but not handset, and installed the USB driver that it recommended. I rebooted, and my MJ is working fine.

Any news on whether CallerIDSPoofer can be modified to work since MJ changed things up in October? Is anyone working on a hack that will provide the same thing? Would be nice to spoof my GrandCentral number.
