Spyware or backdoor on MagicJack?

Post by pgog »

Soon after installing Magic Jack, two things have happened which is cause for concern.

1) my computer has slowed down significantly

2) my credit card number was stolen and used online

I'm very careful with safeguarding my numbers (shred receipts & bills, use a firewall)

Did anyone else experience similar problems? I have an excellent firewall (Online Armor), but I did give permission for Magic Jack to bypass the firewall. Seems like too much of a coincidence that all these things happen after installation.

Since I'm not very pleased with the call quality anyway, I think I'll return the device.

Any ideas on how to remove all traces of MagicJack on my PC? I think I deleted permissions on my firewall for it.

no problem here either. never heard of online armor though, i'm using microsoft onecare on 3 pc's, panda on another 2 and zone alarm on the final pc.

I'd run msconfig and see what else you have loading at startup. maybe you have a trojan or a virus running out of your temp file area.

as far as removing magicjack, do a search on the forum, there are explicit instructions, which include deleting files and mod to the registry.

good luck..

My online banking and creditcards are fine.
Same with all the other people's that have used their card/did their banking on my computer.
Same with the people I've installed magicjack on their computers.

None of these computers have slowed down or anything.

So I am just going to call bull$hit on this one.
