In case this is of interest to others, I asked MJ support this evening about the status of the BYOD feature request. - Mark
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heather: Hello, how may I help you?
Mark: Hi
Mark: I want to Bring my Own Device, i.e. connect to Magicjack from an ATA. What is the status of the "BYOD" feature request?
Heather: Hello, Mark
Mark: I know that hundreds of other people have requested this as well
Heather: Yes, you may use the ATA with magicjack
Mark: Oh! Okay, how?
Heather: click here
Mark: Well that describes what an ATA is, but it doesn't explain how to use it with Magicjack.
Mark: I'm talking about making a direct SIP connection from that ATA to the Magickjack servers via the Internet--without using the Magicjack hardware at all.
Heather: sorry if that's the case, it won't work with magicjack since you only need to have these sets of requirements:
Heather: 1. Any computer with Windows XP or Vista operating system; (Mac/Apple will be available any day.)
Heather: 2. One of the following: broadband, high-speed internet, cable internet, DSL, WiFi or WiMax
Heather: 3. Your present corded or cordless telephone
Mark: Yes, I know about those requirements. I am talking about a NEW feature that has been requested many times. I think it was originally planned for release in March 2008. If you are not familiar with this request, perhaps you could escalate this chat?
Heather: Thank you for your patience. I will transfer you to a higher level of support. Please hold while I transfer you.
Mark: Thank you

Chat Information You are now chatting with 'Quinlan'
Quinlan: Hello Mark, How are you today?
Mark: Fine thank you.
Quinlan: Please hold for a moment while I review your chat with, Heather.
Mark: Okay.
Quinlan: Thank you for holding.
Quinlan: ATA: "Advanced Technology Attachment" It is a type of disk drive that integrates the drive controller directly on the drive itself. Computers can use ATA hard drives without a specific controller to support the drive. The motherboard must still support an ATA connection, but a separate card (such as a SCSI card for a SCSI hard drive) is not needed. Some different types of ATA standards include ATA-1, ATA-2 (a.k.a. Fast ATA), ATA-3, Ultra ATA (33 MBps maximum transfer rate), ATA/66 (66 MBps), and ATA/100 (100 MBps).
Mark: Sorry, in this case, ATA = Analog Terminal Adapter. See the link in Heather's chat for the Wiki info.
Quinlan: But I am sorry to tell you that our Engineers are still working on this feature, dont worry once we get this feature available you will be contacted via email right away. Is <> the best email address to contact you?
Quinlan: Oh sorry.
Quinlan: Please disregard the message above.
Mark: Yes, thank you. What is the approximate time frame and cost for this feature?
Quinlan: Once we get this feature available you will be contacted right away via email regarding with all the information you want, Mark. Is <> the best email address to contact you?
Mark: Yes
Mark: Do you know that approximate time frame for this feature?
Quinlan: As of the moment we dont have the exact time frame if when would be available. Dont worry I will follow up this to our Engineers and I will mark this as a priority for the concern deparment.
Mark: Thank you.
Quinlan: You are most welcome.
Quinlan: Is there anything else I may help you with today?
Mark: Is there a feature request number for this feature? It would simplify future communication if I could tell the agent to "check the status of feature xxxx".
Quinlan: Phone support will be available soon. Dont worry you can chat us back and ask for your request regarding with the ATA.
Mark: Okay, that's all then. Good night.
Quinlan: Thank you for stopping by to chat, I hope I did a good job at addressing your concerns. Please take a second to answer a one question survey about the service I provided. Please click the "close" button on the top right of this screen and the survey will appear. Thanks again!
