Having trouble with low outgoing volume

I just got MJ last week and so far it has been quite reliable. The only trouble that I have been having is that folks on the other end cannot hear me so well. They say that the volume level is low. I can hear them just fine. This is when I am using a regular cordless phone that is plugged into the phone jack on the MJ device. I have fooled with volume settings, etc, but cannot seem to get the outgoing levels to go any higher. Any thoughts on this ?

This has been pretty much endemic to the MJ. Sorry for the cliche answer, but you can find some suggestions if you do a search. I've found that adjusting the volume of my sound card AND the MJ helps a little. Mostly, I just talk louder and hold the mic closer to my mouth.

I've used Wireshark to record both channels and find it to be a fairly objective measure of incoming/outgoing volume. Unfortunately, it doesn't help anything; just verifies what I'm being told.

There have been reports on the forum of devices that can boost the outgoing volume, but are a serious violation of FCC rules.

Thanks Darkman... should I try a powered usb hub or no ? I have been searching for answers on this subject at this forum and elsewhere, but it seems that this is not a widespread issue or I would be seeing more about it on the net. At any rate, I plan on trying MJ on another one of my computers today to see if that changes anything.

I'm not using a powered USB hub, but I don't think that will help. At a minimum, I would suggest downloading Wireshark (free!) and installing it. You can record and listen to the recording of you're side of the conversation. An easier way is to leave yourself a voice message on your answering machine or cell phone. One of the venerable early posters, Stewart, put up a number that would repeat back everything you said, so you could get a real-time indicator of your volume, but I'm too lazy to search for it right now. The forum is great, but searching is not one the strengths.

Mark... thanks for posting the number and the great suggestion! I'll add it to my MJ contacts as soon as I hit "Submit".

PS: It's a little weird talking into the phone and hearing your own voice come back, especially when there are other people around. I'll test it again later, when all the Thanksgiving guests have gone.

Any update on this RacerBob? I too am having the same issue. Maybe it;s the area code??? I'm using 772.

Well mine mysteriously started working better. I did go into my running processes and set the priority on MagicJack to realtime, but I do not know if that in itself had an affect on my outgoing volume.

I had the same problem, where people on the other end heard my voice low. Go to Menu, Volume/Headset Control, and raise your microphone volume up. Not to much, as you will get an echo.

this worked for me, let me know if it works for you.
