I'm able to apply SIP credentials to old Vonics Innomedia ATA and get the Voip light/dial tone to come on. I apply those same credentials to Fring installed on Ipod Touch 2nd Generation. Fring appears to accept those credentials but when making a call it terminates like 19 out of 20 times. Any fixes?
If not, are there other free SIP providers people know of that I can go through with Ipod touch 2G Wifi?? I'ved tried Voipbuster and all those UK affiliates but eventually the account is hosed and you constantly have to sign up. They all do not accept the $10 Euro via Paypal and I find it a bit seedy having to go through resellers to get "free US SIP service".
Are you connecting via a 3G network???
Likelihood is the combined latency of your 'net connection and the call traversing fring's proxy is playing havoc with your call. Can you run a traditional softphone on your device? That would eliminate the added leg of using the fring server but you still may have problems due to the innate latency of your OTA net connection.

Nope, not 3G just a straight Wifi/WLAN connection. Perhaps you're right with the latency but I guess I should be happy that the credentials work with the ATA which is more important to me. Calls thru Ymax are really clear now and I don't have to treat a conversation like a walkie-talkie which I used to have to do going through the mj hardware.
At any rate, I found a provider with cheap SIP rates that I can pay thru Paypal (1.5 cents/minute) so that should suffice. As far as a softphone, I think Fring is the only one available unless you have a 1st generation Touch that can be jailbreaked.
OK, I found out from another forum that the problem is due to the MJ infamous 20 character password and that the Fring app on the Itouch only goes to 18 characters. Why it accepted the credentials in the 1st place, who knows? At any way, it's on fring's side, not mj's.
I've actually been developing with fringe for a couple of months now. the 18 character limitation on sip authentication is a big problem, I have been trying to contact the appropriate people to get that changed in the next release. I think it will be dealt with soon

I am trying also. I am getting password or username incorrect. Is this a dead issue now? I am using google voice + Gizmo on siphon fine, but it only has 3 minute limit. Anyone have this fring
