I can hear call but other party cannot hear me

Post by garben »

When placing a call they can hear me but I can't hear them and when receiving a call, they can hear me but I cannot hear them talk. spent 2 hrs. with tech. support with no help until I got disconected. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Are you using a handset connected to the MJ device? Or, a headset connected to your computer's speaker/mic outlets?

In either case, I would go into the softphone's "menu" and check the volume in the volume/headset control. Make sure the microphone volume is turned up. For a period of time, mine would mysteriously get set to 0.

If that doesn't help, and you're using a handset connected to the MJ device, I would try another handset and/or another USB port.

If another handset or USB port don't help, I'd buy a powered USB hub. The MJ device uses the maximum power of the USB standard, and some motherboard (and hub) manufacturers skimp on power. This one has been recommended by MJ users (and is apparently sold by an MJ user):

A lot of people have reported that a powered hub fixes the kind of problem you report (and other problems). But, a using a different port or handset might fix it too.

The only thing I can think of is to try a microphone (or headset) plugged into the computer's mic (or mic/speaker) outlet. Disconnect the handset and make sure the "Choose your device" is set correctly in the "menu->volume control."

This would completely eliminate whether it's due to your MJ device, USB port, or handset.

It's possible something with your MJ device went bad. If so, a headset would be one way to get the rest of your time out of the device.

It's possible something with your USB port went bad (or, something with the power supply that feeds them). The powered USB port would fix that.

If you could try MJ on another computer, it might help narrow it down (in addition to the headset).

If you want to buy a headset, I use this one. It's only $13 at Target:

You also have to get this adaptor for $6, to convert it from a cordless phone headset to a computer headset:
