I doubt it. MJ requires 100kbs up and down. Dial up provides much less than that.

It does work, and since she is using a cell phone she wouldn't need to disconnect from the internet. She just has to make sure that she has unlimited incoming calls, otherwise it will charge her as if that person called her. Usually it would be local rates.
