Auto Start of MJ
I have been having problems getting MJ to launch all the time. Its been inconsistent and when it did launch it would take about 5 minutes before the software popped up on my desktop. Tech chat was of no help, they keep telling the same thing over and over.
This is what I tried. I went into the Startup menu via msconfig. I disabled all entries. I then checked the following boxes:
cdloader2
ctfmon
setup
Now MJ launches in less than a minute where it used to take 5 and it appears to launch every time I start my computer.
Comments please.

Re: Auto Start of MJ
How do I get MJ NOT to autostart??? I unchecked cdloader2 via msconfig. but it still behaves the same way which is good. I want MJ to stay inserted in usb port. I have ALL my calls forwarded to another number. Works great!! I would like to occassionally make outgoing calls and would like to start MJ manually.then.click icon on desktop??? I do not want it to run in the background and I do not want to keep taking it in and out of USB port.sligg wrote:I have been having problems getting MJ to launch all the time. Just noticed...as I looked at msconfig..cdloader2 put itself back in. What should I do. Dont want to plug MJ in and out.
sligg,
What do you mean you unchecked everything. ... I know the statement is pretty straight forward, but do you mean you disabled all auto start applications? In any case how do you know MJ starts faster if everything is starting at the same time. When you start just the MJ stuff and nothing else it takes a minute, OK but maybe that is it's share of the five minutes when you have everything starting at the same time.
Gosh forgive me if this sounds confusing, because I just read it back to myself and it is confusing.

RedLox,
"How do I get MJ NOT to autostart???" Well that is the first time I have heard that question normally it is the other way around.
I was just thinking as painful as it may be give Tech Support a jingle. The reason I suggest this is one time when I was trying to make mine AutoStart I ran the WEB based Java FIX my MJ program and the first item in the list of check points popped up and said my autostart was not configured correctly would I like to have FIX it, FIX it?
So I checked "Well of course" Duh!
But it didn't fix anything, this was on a Vista machine. I have since moved MJ to an XP machine and it now works as advertised and does autostart.
Back to the point, if the Configuration Program can detect that the AutoStart is not configured correctly then there must be a method to break it. Now the hard part will be finding a Tech Support person that knows what is involved in the autostart and be able to tell you how to defeat it (hopefully).
PS - I have looked at MJ's overhead requirements several time and it appears to be minimal. I don't at the moment remember the numbers but I am like you I don't like background programs eating up my resources when I don't need the item.

what i did is first remove MJ from USB
uninstall all MJ related "stuff"
install Spybot S&D teatimer program
plug MJ back in, allow it to install up to the point TeaTimer asks if I want cdloader added to run registry to which I say no and to always deny it (so spybot doesn't keep asking)
works for me!

Redlox,
I read a comment you mad in the link you suggested taking a look at.
You say yours works in Vista, would you mind defining "works".
Mine works in Vista but:
1. It get hung in headset mode and it is not easy to get it into telephone phone I have to fool with it or plug in my wireless headset and then it will let me set it to telephone mode.
2. It will ABSOLUTELY not autostart.
3. There are some other minor bugs not worth mentioning. But items 1 & 2 are a real pain in the behind.
4. Once I get past some of these items and it is up and running it will stay that way, Great Sound, great everything until the next time I power off and back on. Just rebooting the machine does not seem to cripple it and force me to go thru all the gyrations mentioned above.
I put it over on one of my XP machines and it works exactly as advertised.
PS - I hate Vista, do you think it is possible the machine knows that I do and is just thwarting me out of spite

Worst piece of programming Bill ever put on market...rivals ME in its badness.
The machine knows!!!!! My 5 of them get spoken to by name. Like a plant...they say will grow better...when spoken to. I don't use headsets for phone calls...only to test audio when doing home theater systems. My MJ works as advertised...Since it ain't broke ...I no-fix it.
Why do you need it to auto-start??? Spambox had to tell me how to get rid of auto-start because that's what I wanted. I want to be in control...When I want to make a call I jjust click the icon on desktop.wait a few seconds...and it's ready. Calls in are forwarded to a landline #. Is vista PC a laptop???? If so, GOOD LUCK!!!
Read Sligg's comments...I think you might have cdloader2 unchecked in vista machine.

redlox,
Actually putting Vista on a plane with Me is a little more flattery than I would give Vista, I don't think it is a step or two below Me.
Anyway I could live without the MJ Autostart, I just thru that in the list for completeness.
The one that gets to me is the fact that from a cold (power off start) it comes up in headset mode and will not let me change it to Telephone mode. The only workaround that I have found is if I leave my bluetooth dongle plugged in and connected to my BT headset (yest the headset has to be linked) then it will come up in Telephone mode and it will also let me switch between Headset and Telephone mode.
I could almost live with this work around BUT I use my Cell Phone almost exclusively in Bluetooth mode (too lazy to hold the phone) and when I am in close proximity to the Bluetooth on my computer with the bluetooth on my cell phone they interfere with one another.
I use the Motorola D200 Audio/Stereo Dongle and it is a power level Class 1 (300') device so it overwhelms my cell phone with the power it puts out. And by the way if anyone wants to use a bluetooth headset with their MagicJack the Motorola D200 is excellent BT Dongle. Works on XP, Vista (I know hard to believe) and it does not require any software, it is truly plug and play. I probably should not have added that last statement - I am sure no one will believe me.

Redlox,
If your question was directed at me, the answer is yes and it works very well, at least the MotorolaD 200 dongle & Jawbaone conbination. I have also used the D200 with a Jabra (something) 500 (the over the ear type and it worked well with the D200. The D200 is the secret to good BT audio on any computer IMHO.
