Mj not working getting "No network... error 9"

Post by dims24 »

I haven't been able to find anything relating to my problem here so I'm posting hoping someone can help.

Recently my MJ which has been working fine for months isn't working anymore.
My thin client has the very basic winXP-sp2 that I got from the HP site.
I don't have a firewall installed.

Now when MJ loads.... in the top middle of the softphone it says "No network error 9" but I can use IE and go to websites. I am connected as usual.
When I double click the error message, the regristration window pops up and after about 10 seconds, it says "defective Jack. Contact support" (yea right!)

When I go to the MJ website, it says for error 9, I should download the pdf. which I did.
The pdf says to make some changes in my firewall but I dont have one.

I'm lost..... can anyone help? Thanks Mike

Have you tried running a test to http://testyourvoip.com ? Maybe something is amiss in your router port allow settings.

Do you have another PC you can check the MJ on to make sure it is not defective? If it works on it, then you should try running MagicFix or do a reinstall of the software.

You can force an reinstall by downloading and running http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe.

Is this with the new upgrade ?

Here's a link to the downgrade, Start MagicJack and then click the link..

http://upgrades.talk4free.com/upgrade/a ... pgrade.exe

I got this link from Greg, a YMAX Tech Support that Dan forward my email to for help I requested.

Question: After running the older upgrade.exe and starting for the 1st time, it sees a new MJ version and does the newest upgrade. How do you stop that from happening?

EDIT: nm...forgot about modifying the hosts file.

Thanks for your help guys.

I'm putting this problem on hold until after tomorrow.
I'm on a wireless high speed. I get my signal from a nearby mountain that has a tower on it.

During the last snow storm the antenna up there got snow on it and froze. I was without high speed for about a week. The also give me a dial up as a backup. So I was using that.

Anyway, my testyourvoip.com tests are 2.5 so I think there may still be something going on with that antenna.

The guy is getting a new antenna in tomorrow which will be stronger and will have a finish that won't allow snow to stick. He said he will also go up there and install it tomorrow as well.
So I'm going to wait til that part of the system is 100%.
Thanks again and I'll up date after this is done.
Mike
